Napoli move top with battling 2-1 win over Genoa

Second-half goals from Andre Anguissa and Rasmus Hojlund helped Napoli battle back to earn a 2-1 home win over Genoa on Sunday as the defending champions moved top of the Serie A standings, Reuters reported.

Napoli's perfect start to the league campaign was ended by a 2-1 loss at AC Milan last weekend, and Antonio Conte's side risked a second successive defeat before a spirited fightback, which followed AS Roma's earlier 2-1 win at Fiorentina.

Napoli are on 15 points, ahead of Roma on goal difference, with AC Milan, who are away to Juventus later on Sunday, and Inter Milan both three points behind. Genoa, without a league win, are second from the bottom on two points, according to Reuters.

Pulisic penalty miss denies Milan top spot after 0-0 draw at Juventus

AC Milan's Christian Pulisic missed a penalty and his side had to settle for a 0-0 draw away to Juventus on Sunday, denying the visitors a return to the top of the Serie A standings, Reuters reported.

After Napoli and AS Roma, along with Inter Milan, all registered wins over the weekend, the pressure was on Milan and Juventus to keep pace at the top, leading to a cagey game where Pulisic's error proved costly.

Milan have 13 points, third in the standings and two points behind leaders Napoli and Roma, while Juventus are a further point back in fifth, behind Inter on goal difference, according to Reuters.

Trump sends troops from California to Portland after court denies deployment

President Donald Trump has sent federalised troops from California to Oregon after a court denied his attempt to deploy the National Guard in Portland, BBC reported.

The deployment circumvents a judge's order that blocked deploying troops in Portland by instead using National Guard members who were already serving in Los Angeles after summer protests there.

California Gov Gavin Newsom vowed to file a lawsuit over the manoeuvre, which he called a "breathtaking abuse of the law and power".

Portland is the latest US city - many of which are Democrat-led - targeted as part of the president's crime crackdown. He has argued troops are necessary to restore peace amid ongoing protests over immigration enforcement, according to BBC.

Trump urges mediators to 'move fast' as key Gaza peace talks set to begin

US President Donald Trump has urged everyone involved in efforts to end the Gaza war to "move fast" as mediators are set to meet in Egypt on Monday for indirect peace talks between Hamas and Israel, BBC reported.

The talks come after Hamas agreed to some parts of a 20-point US peace plan, including freeing hostages and handing over Gaza governance to Palestinian technocrats, but is seeking negotiations on other issues.

The group's response did not mention the key demands of its disarmament and playing no future role in Gaza's governance, according to BBC.

Writing on social media that talks had been "very successful", Trump said: "I am told the first phase should be completed this week, and I am asking everyone to move fast."
