Police along with drones mobilized in Karnali for public security during festival period
At least 3, 908 police personnel are to be mobilized in Karnali in view of the security vulnerabilities during Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals, the Provincial Police Office has stated.
The Office has prepared the 'Integrated Festival Security Action Plan 2082' and plans to deploy security personnel along with drones, said the provincial police office spokesperson and senior superintendent of police Kedar Khanal.
According to him, the security plan will be implemented from September 22 to October 27.
Security officials said that there is a risk of additional criminal incidents during the festive season, as prisoners fleeing from different prisons during the Gen-Z protests may return to their homes and the looted arms and ammunition might be misused.
SSP Khanal informed that a planned police deployment, monitoring, and control are necessary to prevent any untoward incidents, and security plans have been made and implemented for that purpose.
He said that 53 mobile patrols, 112 motorcycle patrols, 92 quick response teams (rapid response teams) have been deployed along with 178 on-foot patrols. Additionally, 20 long and short-distance patrols have also been deployed.
To further strengthen security arrangements, police pickets have been kept at 130 locations, while regular, special, and emergency checks are being conducted at 92 locations. SSP Khanal added that a joint check involving traffic has been conducted at 75 locations.
Landslides obstruct Prithvi Highway
Vehicular movement along the Prithvi highway has come to a complete standstill due to landslides that occurred at Jwangkhola and Tingrangkhani of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-10 in Dhading district.
Landslides started occurring at 10 am today.
Police Inspector at the District Traffic Police Office, Gajuri, Suraj Shrestha, shared that efforts are underway to remove landslide debris to resume the traffic.
Thousands of vehicles are stranded due to obstruction of highway at a time when huge numbers of people are returning to their homes with the start of Dashain festival.
Security personnel have been mobilized to move the vehicles to safer places, said Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Dhading, Bhesh Raj Rijal.
The passengers have been requested to stay alert and to use alternative routes if needed.
The Prithvi highway had remained completely blocked for 17 hours due to a dry landslide at Jwangkhola on Monday night.
Vehicular movement was brought into operation this morning.

Gold price drops by Rs 1, 700 per tola on Thursday
The price of gold has dropped by Rs 1, 700 per tola in the domestic market on Thursday.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the yellow metal is being traded at Rs 221, 300 per tola today. It was traded at Rs 223, 000 per tola on Wednesday.
Similarly, the price of silver has dropped by Rs 15 and is being traded at Rs 2, 685 per tola.
222 prisoners return to Nawalparasi prison
Prisoners, who escaped from Nawalparasi prison in the course of the nationwide Gen-Z protests, continue to return.
Jailer Bikal Shrestha shared that 222 of the 546 prisoners who escaped on September 9 have returned to the prison so far.
The prisoners overpowered the security of the prison and escaped, Jailer Shrestha said. However, 17 men and 12 women chose not to run away from the prison.
He said the prisoners were issued a notice and requested to return, and the prisoners started returning to the prison on a daily basis.
Jailer Shrestha said that 40 of the prisoners who escaped from Nawalparasi Prison are Indian citizens, adding that one has already returned to the prison. According to him, 13 prisoners from Nawalparasi Prison have gone to other prisons in the country and six from other prisons have come here.
Jailer Shrestha informed that two Moroccans and one South African citizen (prisoner) who escaped from the Central Prison are currently in Nawalparasi Prison.
