Fulpati, seventh day of Bada Dashain, being observed today

On the occasion of the Bada Dashain festival, the Fulpati is being taken into the homes as per tradition throughout the country today. 

Fulpati, an assortment of flowers, leaves and fruits of different plants considered auspicious, is anointed at the Dashain Ghar on the seventh day of the Bada Dashain festival. 

The Fulpati is brought to Kathmandu as per the Vedic rites to be anointed at the Dashain Ghar at the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar. 

The Gurujyuko Platoon, the Nepal Army, Nepal police, and high-ranking officials of Armed Police and civil service, the Asha Gurja team, band music, and panchebaja bands and decorated kalsyoulis, and a procession along with cultural pageantry leave Hanuman Dhoka for Jamal with the Fulpati. 

During the monarchy, the King, as the Head of State, used to attend the Fulpati ritual at Dashain Ghar, but with the foundation of the Republic, the Minister for Culture is attending, said the Durbar Museum Development Committee. 

The auspicious hour to bring the Fulpati this year is fixed at 4:30 pm. It was informed that the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and local level representatives in Kathmandu were invited to attend the rituals. 

Though the Dashain festival begins from Ghatasthapana, the festival sees special fervor from the day of Fulpati. 

All governments, as well as private offices, close down from today encouraging people to go back to their respective ancestral homes and take blessings from Durga Bhawani as well as their elders. 

 

Probe commission decides to ask details of losses caused during Gen-Z protests

An Investigation Commission formed under coordination of former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki to investigate the incident that occurred on September 8 and 9 has decided to ask for the details of losses from stakeholders concerned. 

The meeting of the Commission held on Thursday took the decision to ask from the Home Ministry the details of the losses of the Supreme Court, the Commission of Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and other government offices. 

Details of the losses of private sector, industries and individual property could be submitted by visiting the Commission's office, Babarmahal, or through email.  

Karki shared: "There is no expert to investigate the incident as well as expert studying related to bullets. We will ask the government to provide public prosecutors and police and will carry out works in order to complete designated responsibility within three months."

According to the Commission, details of the losses could be submitted at the Commission's Office or sent email at [email protected] incorporating any evidence including documents or audiovisual content confirming the losses. 

A cabinet meeting held on September 21 had formed a three-member commission under coordination of Karki where former IGP Bigyan Raj Sharma and law expert Bisheshwor Prasad Bhandari are the members. 

The term of the investigation commission is of three months. 

There was a huge loss of lives and properties during the Gen-Z protests held on September 8 and 9. A total of 74 people have lost their lives so far and activities are underway to collect the details of property damaged during the protests.

 

MCA-Nepal signs contract for power transmission line construction under MCC

The Millennium Challenge Account Nepal Development Committee (MCA-Nepal) has signed a contract for the construction of a 117-kilometer transmission line under the Power Transmission Project of MCC Nepal Compact. 

With this agreement, all construction contracts regarding construction of a 315-kilometer power transmission line going to be constructed under MCC Nepal Compact have been completed. 

The 117-kilometer transmission would be constructed from a sub-station, which is under construction at Lapsiphedi, to Hetauda sub-station, Makawanpur, via Ratmate sub-station in Nuwakot.  

The contract of the project is USD 766.50 million. Executive Director of MCA-Nepal, Khadga Bahadur Bista and Nirman Gauli, representative of the construction company, signed the agreement.

 

 

Maoist Center dissolves CC; decides to convene general convention by mid-December

The CPN (Maoist Center) has dissolved its Central Committee (CC) and decided to convene the party's general convention by mid of this December.

The two-day-long CC meeting of the party held in the capital city made this decision, party's Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota shared.

The meeting has entrusted the responsibility of coordinator of the general convention organizing committee to party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. 

The existing CC members will be the general convention organizing committee members.  

Sapkota said that a secretariat comprising the sitting office-bearers will be formed for conducting the party's general convention and run the party's daily activities. 

Likewise, the Maoist Center has decided to ensure maximum participation of Gen-Z in the party's general convention, according to Sapkota. 

Furthermore, the party has decided to form a commission to probe the property details of the party leaders and the probe would be carried out from the party's office-bearers. 

In his concluding remarks at the CC meeting, Chairman Dahal announced to make the property details of all leaders public and form a commission for the investigation of property details.   

Sapkota mentioned that the party would review the operation modality of the party central office, leaders' secretariat and their family management affairs.

As decided by the CC meeting, the Maoist Center would advance the unification process with the likeminded political forces by concluding that the national sovereignty and democracy were at peril.

Similarly, the CC meeting has decided to fully prepare for the upcoming elections slated for March 5. 

At the CC meeting, 10 separate groups were formed to discuss Chairman Prachanda's political report and the conclusions of the groups were shared at the meeting. 

According to Sapkota, the team leaders of all 10 groups seconded the political report tabled by Chairman Dahal.

Likewise, Dahal asserted that the party cannot function in the old fashion and called for embracing new procedures and manners.   

The Maoist Centwr Chairman also directed the leaders to make transformations to their lifestyle and cultural behaviours. 

 

 

Vehicular movement resumes along Narayangadh-Muglin road section

Vehicular movement along the Narayanhadh-Muglin road section that was obstructed following a landslide has resumed from Thursday night.

The road section was obstructed for 105 hours at different times over a week.

Traffic was halted at Tuinkhola on the road section for a long time due to landslides that frequently occurred at the place from last Friday.  

Chief of Division Road Office, Chitwan, Narayan Lamichhane, shared that two-way traffic has resumed at the road section from Thursday night after removing landslide debris.

However, Lamichhane shared, "The road is prone to mudslides if rainfall takes place and to dry landslides on sunny days. Although there is no immediate risk of landslide, we urge all to travel taking precaution." 

Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal mentioned that all the stranded vehicles were sent towards their destinations on Thursday night. 

All vehicles travelling via Chitwan are now in operation, he added.

 

 

A 100% tariff on some imported drugs is coming October 1, Trump says

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that brand-name or patented pharmaceutical products will be subject to a 100% tariff starting October 1 – unless the drugmaker is building a manufacturing plant in the US, CNN reported.

Trump has been promising for months to levy tariffs on pharmaceutical imports, which avoided tariffs during his first term. The president sees tariffs as a way to pressure drug manufacturers to ramp up production in the US and to strengthen the supply chain for essential medicines.

Also, Trump has pointed to tariffs as a way to fulfill his vow to lower drug costs, though experts say that is unlikely to happen, according to CNN.

Gold price increases by Rs 1, 200 per tola on Friday

The price of gold has increased by Rs 1, 200 per tola in the domestic market on Friday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the precious yellow metal is being traded at Rs 222, 500 per tola today.

Similarly, the silver is being traded at Rs 2, 740 per tola today.

McGinn seals Villa win against Bologna, Giroud fires Lille past Brann

An early goal from John McGinn helped Aston Villa to kick off their Europa League campaign with a gritty 1-0 group-stage win over Bologna on Thursday, while Olivier Giroud came off the bench to nod in a late winner in Lille’s dramatic 2-1 triumph against SK Brann, Reuters reported.

Scottish midfielder McGinn's decisive goal came in the 13th minute, setting Villa off to a positive start in their European campaign at Villa Park.

McGinn broke the deadlock when a cleverly worked short corner found him in space outside the box. With precision, he struck a low shot that nestled into the bottom corner, leaving Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski rooted to the spot, according to Reuters.
