Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz meet in Sunday's Australian Open final with history in the balance, as the Serbian great chases a record 25th Grand Slam title and the Spanish dynamo bids to become the youngest man to win all four majors, Reuters reported. 

Modern men's tennis has not lacked for champions pushing for the next frontier of greatness but the stakes have rarely been higher in a single match.

With 24 major trophies and a record 10 at Melbourne Park, Djokovic's legacy is already secure, according to Reuters. 

Leaders Arsenal end slump with 4-0 romp at Leeds, Liverpool crush Newcastle

Premier League leaders Arsenal ended their mini-slump with an emphatic 4-0 victory at Leeds United on Saturday to move seven points clear as champions Liverpool crushed Newcastle United 4-1, Reuters reported. 

Martin Zubimendi's header and an own goal by Leeds keeper Karl Darlow put Arsenal in command before halftime, and Viktor Gyokeres's volley and a clever finish by Gabriel Jesus wrapped things up after the break.

Arsenal's first victory in four Premier League games moved Mikel Arteta's side to 53 points from 24 matches with Manchester City and Aston Villa, who both play on Sunday, on 46, according to Reuters. 

Road accidents claim 29 lives in Sarlahi in six months

A total of 29 people died and 190 were seriously injured in road accidents that took place in Sarlahi in the first six months of the current fiscal year. 

During the period 641 road accidents involving small and large four-wheelers and motorcycles occurred, with most of the fatalities including motorcyclists and public vehicle passengers, according to Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Police Inspector Ashok Sah.

 Accidents occur more often when drivers and pedestrians violate traffic rules. However, violation of traffic rules is significant with Rs 4.8 million collected in revenue from action taken against drivers violating traffic rules. 

Police Inspector Sah said that action was taken against those who did not have driver's license, were not wearing helmets, were not carrying travel permits, and were carrying passengers more than their capacity. 

The police have been strictly monitoring to ensure the enforcement of the provision of having two drivers in long-distance passenger buses. 

Of the 7,277 long-distance passenger buses monitored during the period, 22 were found to have violated the rule, Sah said.

Furthermore, the meteorological analysis by the Division states that a western low-pressure system is currently affecting the western region of the country.

32 days to go for HoR elections: Ballot papers printed for 18 constituencies in 15 districts

The printing of ballot papers for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5 has been completed. 

According to the Election Commission, ballot papers for 18 constituencies in a total of 15 districts have been printed so far at Janak Education Materials Limited, Bhaktapur. 

Ballot papers for Dolpa, Mugu, Jumla, Kalikot, Humla, Salyan, Jajarkot have been printed.

 Similarly, ballot papers for Dailekh constituency 1 and 2, Surkhet constituency 1 and 2, Rukum Paschim, Bajura and Achham constituency 1 and 2, Kailali constituency 1, Jhapa constituency 5 and Sunsari constituency 1 has been printed.

Prior to this, 20.083 million ballot papers for the proportional representation (PR) system have been printed.

Five killed in gas explosions in Iran, officials say

Five people have been killed in two separate explosions in Iran which local officials and state media say were caused by gas leaks, BBC reported. 

One person was killed and 14 injured in a blast at a residential building in the southern city of Bandar Abbas on the Gulf coast, a local official told Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency.

Another explosion killed four people in the south-western city of Ahvaz, the state-run Tehran Times reported, according BBC. 

 

 

More than 200 killed in mine collapse in DR Congo

More than 200 people have been killed in a mine collapse in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, rebel authorities have said, BBC reported. 

The mine, in the town of Rubaya, gave way on Wednesday due to heavy rains, Lumumba Kambere Muyisa, spokesman for the North Kivu region's rebel governor, told reporters. At the time, the death toll remained unclear.

Women and children were among those mining coltan - a mineral used to manufacture electronics such as smartphones and computers - at the time, according to BBC. 

Israeli air strikes kill at least 32 Palestinians in Gaza, rescue officials say

At least 32 people have been killed in a wave of Israeli air strikes across the Gaza Strip on Saturday, according to local authorities, BBC reported. 

The civil defence agency, which is operated by Hamas, says children and women were among those killed. It added that in one attack, helicopter gunships hit a tent sheltering displaced people in the southern city of Khan Younis.

Palestinians have described these strikes as the heaviest since the second phase of the ceasefire, brokered by President Trump in October, came into effect earlier this month, according to BBC.
