Barry rescues point for Everton in 1-1 home draw with Leeds
Everton's Thierno Barry cancelled out James Justin’s opener for Leeds United to earn a point for the hosts in a lively 1-1 Premier League draw at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday, Reuters reported.
Everton move up to 10th in the table with 33 points from 23 games, but will rue two more dropped points at home, while Leeds move six points clear of the relegation zone in 16th place.
Both teams hit the woodwork in a proverbial game of two halves as Leeds were on top in the opening period, before a change in system to three at the back saw Everton wrestle control and claim a deserved equaliser, according to Reuters.
Brazil requests to host 2029 FIFA Club World Cup
Brazil formally has told FIFA it wants to host the 2029 Club World Cup, according to a report by ESPN Brazil, Reuters reported.
The request was delivered during meetings in Rio de Janeiro as FIFA president Gianni Infantino visited the country.
Infantino's trip was focused on kick-starting the buildup to the 2027 Women's World Cup, which will be staged across eight host cities in Brazil, according to Reuters.
Gold price increases by Rs 300 per tola on Tuesday
The price of gold has increased by Rs 300 per tola in the domestic market on Tuesday.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the precious yellow metal is being traded at Rs 309, 300 per tola today. It was traded at Rs 309, 000 per tola on Monday.
Similarly, the silver being traded at Rs 6, 870 per tola today.
APF Chief Aryal directs personnel not to compromise on polls security
Armed Police Force (APF) Chief Raju Aryal has directed the APF personnel to get deployed in the field to ensure a robust security situation in the House of Representatives (HoR) polls scheduled for March 5.
Issuing instructions to APF officers being deployed as chiefs at various stations, Aryal emphasized the need for the highest level of professionalism and focus throughout the election period. He urged security personnel to work diligently to maintain an effective and reliable security arrangement.
Aryal also instructed the APF to ensure that the elections are conducted in a fearless and peaceful manner, stressing strict adherence to the election code of conduct.
Additionally, he directed the force to remain proactive in controlling revenue leakage during the election period.
One killed in Chitwan rhino attack
A person died in a rhino attack in Madi Municipality-1, Chitwan district on Monday.
DSP Rabindra Khanal of the District Police Office, Chitwan said that 22-year-old Ashok Bhattarai died in the incident.
Critically injured Bhattarai was rushed to the Chitwan Medical College but breathed his last during the course of treatment, DSP Khanal added.
Chitwan National Park officials said that two people were killed in the rhino attacks in the current fiscal year in Chitwan.
Rasuwa Customs Office collects Rs 1.16 billion in revenue
The Rasuwa Customs Office has collected Rs 1.16 billion in revenue during the first six months of the current fiscal year 2082/83 BS, according to Chief Customs Officer Tulasi Prasad Bhattarai.
Currently, the officials are screening some 200 goods-laden containers.
The Office also marked the 74th Customs Day organizing a special event on Monday.
Bhattarai said that the Nepal Inter Model Transport Development Committee is working to clear the debris gathered in the dry port area, which was amassed following the flooding in Lhende river occurred on July 7, 2025.
Currently, as high as 250 trucks could be accommodated at the site after clearing the debris.
While marking the Customs Day, the Office felicitated two businesspersons and four customs officials for their outstanding delivery.
Nine districts at high risk of forest fire
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has identified nine districts at high risk of forest fire.
According to the Authority, Banke, Bardiya, Chitwan, Dang, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Parsa, Salyan and Surkhet districts are categorized as having high risk of forest fire.
Likewise, Achham, Arghakhachi, Bara, Dadeldhura, Doti, Gorkha, Jajarkot, Kapilbastu, Makawanpur, Nawalpur, Pyuthan, Sindhuli and Udayapur also face risks of forest fire.
The Authority has said that effective measures including preparedness, surveillance and warning systems have been applied to mitigate the risks of forest fire in the districts.
Such measures are in place to make them more effective and result-oriented based on cooperation and coordination of the three layers of government.
Partial rain likely in high hills of three provinces
There is a partial impact of the westerly wind in the country at present, resulting in light rain in the high hills and mountainous areas in Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces in the afternoon today.
According to the Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the high hills in Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces will remain partly cloudy and receive rain.
The mountainous belt of these provinces will receive snowfall as well.
Furthermore, some places in Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces are likely to receive light rain along with thunder.
The same patterns of weather systems are predicted for this evening as well in the provinces, the Division stated.
