In an extraordinary finale, the Portuguese side were heading out despite leading 3-2 with seconds of stoppage time remaining before Trubin came forward for a free kick to score the goal needed to sneak into the playoff round on goal difference.
That sparked wild celebrations from Benfica players, fans and their charismatic coach Jose Mourinho - a former manager of Real Madrid - at the Stadium of Light in Lisbon, according to Reuters.
China former soccer chief, national team coach among 73 to receive lifetime bans for match-fixing
The Chinese Football Association on Thursday said its former president Chen Xuyuan and former national team coach Li Tie, who were among 73 people convicted of match-fixing, would be barred from soccer-related activities for life, Reuters reported.
The announcement followed lifetime bans issued, opens new tabin September 2024 on 43 soccer players and officials also for match-fixing.

Man dies as motorcycle plunges into canal in Chitwan
A person died after a motorcycle he was riding on fell into the Radhapur canal of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-14, Chitwan on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Binod Subedi of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-16, according to Rabindra Khanal, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the District Police Office.
Subedi was rescued and rushed to the Bharatpur Hospital, where he died in the course of treatment.
29 polling stations highly sensitive in Palpa
The District Security Committee has categorized 29 polling stations in Palpa as highly sensitive.
According to Chief District Officer Binu Kunwar, 20 polling stations in Constituency-1 and nine in Constituency-2 are sensitive.
A total of 118 polling centers and 251 polling stations have been determined for the district which has two House of Representatives constituencies
Out of 207,436 total voters in Palpa, 98,383 are in Constituency-1 and 109,053 are in Constituency-2. The number of new voters to be registered for the March 5 election is 6,110 in the district.
HoR elections: Kaski-1 , a volatile constituency with frequently changed outcome
Kaski is divided into three electoral constituencies for the March 5 elections to the House of Representatives. Among them, Constituency-1 is known to give an outcome that changes frequently.
The constituency covers Madi and Rupa rural municipalities and ward nos- 10, 12, 13, 14, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32 of Pokhara Metropolitan City. A total of 17 candidates are contesting from the constituency, according to Rudra Neupane, Information Officer of the Election Office in Pokhara.
Out of the total candidates in this constituency, 16 are men, one is a woman while all but one are candidates representing political parties. There are 116,878 voters in this constituency.
In the first general elections following restoration of democracy in 1990, Taranath Ranabhat of the Nepali Congress was elected from this constituency in 2048 BS, who went on to assume the responsibility of the Speaker of the country. In the following elections in 2051 BS, Khagaraj Adhikari of the CPN (UML) won while Ranabhat won it for the second time four years later in 2056 BS.
In the first Constituent Assembly elections held in 2064 BS after the 2006 people's movement, Dev Gurung of the CPN (Maoist Center), i.e. the then CPN Maoist, won from this constituency. Gurung, who won from two constituencies, later chose Manang and in the by-election in 2065 BS, Krishna Bahadur Gurung of the same party was elected.
Meanwhile, in the second Constituent Assembly election held in 2070 BS, Yagya Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress won from this constituency, while Khagraj Adhikari of the UML and Maoist alliance won the House of Representatives election held in 2074 BS. Then, Man Bahadur Gurung of the UML won the constituency in the election held in 2079 BS.
Among the 17 candidates in the fray this time, Bain Bahadur Adhikari Chhetri from the UML, Tilak Bahadur Ranabhat from the Nepali Congress, Rajkaji Gurung (Karan) from the Nepali Communist Party, Khadak Raj Poudel (Ganesh) from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Baburam Thapa from the RPP, and Manisha Dwa from the Ujyalo Nepal Party are some notable figures likely to engage in a competition to win this constituency.
Light snowfall and rain likely in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki today
Partly cloudy weather is forecast today in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, while the rest of the country is expected to experience mainly fair conditions.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division’s 8:00 am bulletin, there is a possibility of light rainfall and snowfall at one or two places in the high hilly and Himalayan regions of these provinces. Fog and mist are also likely at many locations across the Tarai region during the day.
Tonight, mist may occur at a few places in the Tarai. Partly cloudy conditions are expected in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as in the high hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, while the remaining areas are likely to remain mostly fair. Light rainfall and snowfall may continue at isolated locations in the high hilly and Himalayan regions.
The Division stated that the prevailing weather pattern is being influenced by the partial effect of a westerly low-pressure system over the country.
35 days to go for HoR elections: EC to use Nepal-made election materials
The Election Commission has adopted a policy of using locally produced materials as much as possible for the elections to the House of Representatives slated for March 5.
To make the election economical, transparent and to use and encourage local products, the Commission has adopted a policy of using locally produced materials as much as possible.
A total of 51 materials will be used for the elections and currently 37 types of materials are being procured from the provinces and districts in a decentralized manner, shared the Commission's spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
Among them, 14 types of materials are being procured from the central level and the responsibility for most of the purchases has been given to Salt Trading Company. He said that only new materials worth Rs 67.5 million have been procured for the elections and other materials have been reused.
