Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe, a potential presidential contender, was shot in Bogota on Saturday, according to the government and his party, as his wife said he was fighting for his life in hospital, Reuters reported.

The 39-year-old senator, who was shot during a campaign event as part of his run for the presidency in 2026, is a member of the opposition conservative Democratic Center party founded by former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe. The two men are not related.

According to a party statement condemning the attack, the senator was hosting a campaign event in a public park in the Fontibon neighborhood in the capital on Saturday when "armed subjects shot him from behind.

The party described the attack as serious, but did not disclose further details on Uribe's condition, according to Reuters.

The row between Donald Trump and Elon Musk over a major spending bill has exacerbated uncertainty over the future of Nasa's budget, which is facing deep cuts, BBC reported.

The space agency has published its budget request to Congress, which would see funding for science projects cut by nearly a half.

Forty science missions, which are in development or in space already, are in line to be stood down.

US President Donald Trump is deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen in Los Angeles to deal with unrest over raids on undocumented migrants, BBC reported.

His border czar, Tom Homan, told Fox News on Saturday: "We are making Los Angeles safer."

The Californian city saw a second day of unrest on Saturday as residents of a predominantly Latino district clashed with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) federal agents. Tear gas and batons were used to disperse crowds in the Paramount district, according to BBC.

As many as 118 arrests were made in LA this week as a result of ICE operations, including 44 on Friday. California Governor Gavin Newsom has condemned the raids as "cruel".

A person died when a motorbike he was riding on met with an accident at Sano Kerkha in Kamal Rural Municipality-3, Jhapa along the East-West Highway on Saturday.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Khagendra Bahadur Khadka of the District Police Office, the deceased has been identified as Armed Police Force Sub-Inspector Puran Lal Rajbanshi, based at the Armed Police Force Nepal BOP in Ilam. 

The accident took place when Rajbansi lost control of the two-wheeler (Pra 1-02-0052 Pa 7029) last night. 

He was heading towards Kerkha from Birtamode when the tragedy occurred.

Rajbanshi, who was seriously injured in the accident, breathed his last during the course of treatment at the B&C Hospital in Birtamod.

The Parliament meeting has been scheduled for 1 pm today.

As per the meeting agenda, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel will present a proposal seeking a discussion on the government's annual budget for the fiscal year 2025/26.

Similarly, State Affairs and Good Governance Committee Chairman Ramhari Khatiwada will present the 'Report of the Committee on the Federal Civil Service Bill, 2082'.

It may be noted that the Parliament meeting has not been able to enter the regular agenda in the past few days due to continuous obstruction by the  opposition parties, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over the 'visit visa' scam.

It’s getting hot and humid and dressing comfortably is of paramount importance to feel at ease during this time. But does that mean we have to give style a miss and only wear baggy pants and cotton tops for the rest of the summer months? Not at all. There are easy ways to jazz up your outfits. A simple ensemble can be stylish and look well put-together with some thought and effort. Here we tell you how you can stay comfortable and classy when the sun’s out and you’d rather jump into the swimming pool than attend meetings and work. 

Create a summer wardrobe

Take a look at what you have and pull out all the clothes that aren’t comfortable or those that you haven’t worn in a while. Choose pieces that you want to wear, the ones you feel comfortable in and keep them aside. Fold or hang them where you can access them easily. This makes getting ready a lot easier than having to hunt for clothes when it’s time to go out. Once you know what you have, decide what you want to buy and invest in a few summer pieces like an oversized white cotton shirt, a flowy dress, some skirts, and perhaps even a few co-ord sets that you can wear together or mix and watch with other items in your closet. 

Take a look at your accessories

Summer calls for dainty jewelry and light accessories rather than bulky ones that feel heavy and look out of place when paired with a breezy ensemble. So, evaluate your jewelry and accessories situation. Invest in some light earrings and belts. A neutral color bag that doesn’t have flashy hardware or too many buckles can accessorize any summer outfit. Accessories can make or break any outfit and the problem with summer outfits is that your jewelry and other things that you use can weigh it down. You have to get the balance right. Choose lightweight pieces and dainty silver jewelry to compliment your outfit and don’t over accessorize. Stick to one or two pieces at the most. 

Don’t go all baggy

We tend to wear loose fitting clothes during the summer because the thought of body hugging jeans and tops make us sweat more than the actual heat. But pairing an oversized jeans with an oversized top makes you look sloppy and bigger than your actual size. It’s also not a good outfit choice for office and formal occasions, never mind the oversized suit trends you see on Instagram. Pair one loose clothing item with another well fitted one. For example, wear a well-fitted trouser with a flowy top instead of a loose harem pant with a flowy top. The key is to make sure one thing fits properly. It doesn’t have to be a body hugging piece. You can opt for tailored cotton pants or linen leggings. 

Opt for pastel colors

Dark colors trap heat and make you feel uncomfortable. Light colors reflect sunlight and have a cooling effect. Pastel colors look really good during the summer months. They give you an airy feeling while looking proper and put together as well. Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics and make sure they are in a lighter shade for the extra impact. Soft hues like baby blue, lavender, peach, and mint are perfect for summer. It’s not that you can’t wear dark colors during summer but try to avoid it when you can, especially during the day. 

Pay attention to the details

Wear comfortable shoes. Avoid closed, heavy shoes that can trap sweat. Opt for sandals and breathable sneakers in canvas instead. Keep your makeup light so that it doesn’t melt in the heat and also doesn’t make your look sweaty and shiny. Opt for just a moisturizer and sunscreen when you can as a natural look is more practical during the summer. This way, you can use oil blotting sheets to dab away the excess oil from your face during the day. Layering might seem counterintuitive but it can help you transition from outdoor heat to indoor ac with ease. It can also protect your skin from sun damage. The trick is to use light or sheer fabrics when layering. And lastly, choose the right undergarment. Avoid padded bras and synthetic materials. 

Twelve projects under the Intensive Urban Development and Building Construction Office, Rajpur Doti, have remained stalled for the past nine months in Sanfebagar Municipality. These projects, launched under the Intensive Urban Development Program, include blacktopping of the Airport Bazaar and Chhipekhola Roads, construction of residences for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, development of Sarm Khelne Park and Bayalpata Park, repair of Baidyanath Dham Road, construction of the Thanti Bazaar Inner Road, the Tarekuna Complex Building, and the road from Ghughurkot Ward Office to Durbar. Additional plans involve the management of Hat Bazaar Khola, blacktopping of Pul Bazaar Road, and construction of the Lamakhet Dopka Drain.

The delays have been caused by financial disputes between the main contractor, Synergy/Dhruvatara JV, and the subcontractor, Langtang Construction Pvt Ltd, which was awarded dozens of projects as part of a single package. While eight projects have made sluggish progress, work on Baidyanath Dham Road, Thanti Bazaar Inner Road, Lamakhet Dopka Drainage, and Hat Bazaar Khola Management has yet to begin.

Nawaraj Buddha, Ward Chairman of Sanfebagar Municipality-4, said locals are suffering due to incomplete roads in key areas. “During the rice planting season, rainwater washes gravel from the unfinished Airport Bazaar road into the fields. Locals are demanding compensation. Contractors are unreachable. The so-called development is only causing damage,” he said.

The Synergy/Dhruvatara JV Construction Company signed a Rs 336.121m (including VAT) contract with the Urban Development and Building Construction Office on 31 Oct 2024, agreeing to complete the works within six months. It subcontracted the work to Langtang Construction Pvt Ltd.

Santosh Gurung, a representative of Langtang Construction, said the company is struggling due to non-payment. “We still haven’t received Rs 17.4m. How can we continue when we haven’t even been able to pay workers?” he said, alleging that the main contractor raised project bills and diverted Rs 146.4m for other works.

Another Langtang representative, Pradeep Khadka, claimed that while 51 percent of the work has been completed, the company has only received Rs 41m. He reiterated that the problem lies with the main contractor. According to him, only the construction of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s residence and the Tarekuna Complex building is currently progressing; all other roadworks have stalled.

Ram Ashish Das, Project Chief at the Urban Development and Building Construction Office, Doti, also acknowledged serious negligence by the contractor. He stated that the office has forwarded a request for a one-year extension to the department, although only a six-month extension is likely to be approved. “The main and subcontractors haven’t even sat down for talks,” he said, adding that payments were released before Dashain based on verified work. The subcontractor claims they haven’t received the amount due, while the main contractor allegedly exaggerated the scope of work completed. “With the monsoon underway and Dashain-Tihar approaching, we are left with no choice but to consider legal action,” he added.

Dhubra Kunwar, a representative of Synergy/Dhruvatara JV, claimed that the company had paid Langtang Construction. “We received Rs 146.4m from the Intensive Urban Development Program and paid Langtang accordingly. The subcontractor has now gone out of contact,” he said, adding that work will now resume after delays caused by budget shortages and other issues.
