9 Gen Z protesters killed in clash with police in New Baneshwor

At least nine Gen Z protesters killed in a clash with police in New Baneshwor on Monday.

Hospital sources said that six people died at the National Trauma Center, two at the Civil Hospital, and one at the KMC Hospital.

Among the 40 people, who were injured during the Gen Z protest, being treated at the Trauma Center, one is in critical condition. The health condition of 15 injured is normal.

Similarly, 10 injured people are being treated at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.

Police fired water cannons, tear gas, and rubber bullets after protests in Baneshwor turned violent.

Some security personnel were also injured during the protest.

The Gen Z youths have been protesting against corruption and ban on social media.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nepal Army mobilized in curfew-imposed areas including New Baneshwor

In the wake of Gen Z demonstration unleashing anarchy, the Nepal Army has been mobilized in the curfew-imposed areas including New Baneshwor of Kathmandu.

The Nepal Army personnel were mobilized after the Kathmandu administration-imposed curfew in a bid to tame the protest and the local security committee requested for additional support.

Spokesperson of the Nepal Army, Rajaram Basnet, informed that a contingent of Nepal Army was mobilized in the curfew-clamped areas upon the request of the local security committee in view of an anarchic demonstration that tried to enter the Parliament building.

The Gen Z demonstration began from Maitighar this morning.

The protesters breached the restricted area of New Baneshwor which houses the Federal Parliament building. The protestors committed arson and vandalism at the gate of the building, prompting Nepal Police to open blank firing and making dozens of tear gas shells.  

Over 30 police personnel including a Deputy Superintendent of Police and an Inspector have been injured in the clash, while dozens of protestors received injuries.

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu District Administration has extended curfew in the district.

 

Indefinite curfew imposed in Pokhara

An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Pokhara after the Gen Z protest turned violent.

Chief District Officer of Kaski Rudra Devi Sharma has issued a curfew order from 2 pm today until further notice.

During the implementation of the curfew order, no movement, gathering, demonstration, rally, meeting or picketing has been allowed in the specified areas.

The curfew has been clamped from east of Shahid Chowk to Y Chowk, north-east of Milan Chowk, West of Fishtail Gate, north of Land Revenue Office, and south of Rastra Bank Chowk.

 

PM Oli calls emergency Cabinet meeting

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called an emergency Cabinet meeting on Monday.

Two people have been confirmed dead and hundreds were injured during the Gen Z protest today.

Prime Minister Oli called an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers at 6 pm in Baluwatar today to discuss this issue.

Gen Z youths have taken to the streets against corruption and ban on social media.

They have continued the protest across the country including Kathmandu.

20yo man dies as police open fire during Gen Z protest in New Baneshwor

A 20-year-old man, who was injured in police firing during the Gen Z protest in New Baneshwor, has died.

The identity of the deceased has not been ascertained yet. 

He breathed his last during the course of treatment, Hospital Employees Union Chairman Santosh Dhimal said.

 

Protester dies in police firing in New Baneshwor

A person died of bullet injuries in a clash between Gen Z protesters and police personnel in New Baneshwor on Monday.

Police opened fire after the protest went out of control.

The protester, who was seriously injured in the incident, breathed his last during the course of treatment at the Civil Hospital.

 

Three journalists injured in Gen Z protest in New Baneshwor

Three photojournalists were injured during Gen Z’s protest in New Baneshwor on Monday.

The injured have been identified as Naya Patrika photo journalist Dipendra Dhungana, Nepal Press photo journalist Umesh Karki, and Kantipur Television journalist Shyam Shrestha.

They are undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital in New Baneshwor.

Earlier, police had opened fire to disperse the mob.

Journalists Dhungana and Karki were injured by bullet shrapnel. Journalist Shrestha was hit by a rubber bullet in the arm.

 

 

 

 

Curfew extended to other areas in Kathmandu

The District Administration Office, Kathmandu has extended the curfew to other areas as well.

The administration has extended the curfew up to the President’s Office in Maharajgunj, the Vice-President's residence in Lainchaur, around Singha Durbar, and the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar.

Earlier, the curfew order has been effective from Baneshwor Chowk to the west up to Bijulibazar Bridge via Everest Hotel, from Baneshwor Chowk to the east up to Tinkune Chowk via Minbhawan and Shantinagar, from Baneshwor Chowk to the north up to Ratna Rajya Secondary School via Eyeplex Mall, and from Baneshwor Chowk to the south up to Shankhamul Bridge via the Shankhamul roadway, according to the notice issued by Kathmandu Chief District Officer Chhabilal Rijal.

During the implementation of the curfew order, no movement, gathering, demonstration, rally, meeting or picketing has been allowed in the specified areas.

The curfew began at 12:30 pm and remains effective till 10 pm today.
