Nagarik Unmukti Party’s Resham Chaudhary arrested

Nagarik Unmukti Party leader Resham Chaudhary has been arrested on Wednesday.

Police apprehended Chaudhary from the premises of the program venue in Pragya Bhawan at a time when preparations were underway to announce the party unity between Nagarik Unmukti Party and Janamat Party.

The reason behind the arrest is yet to be ascertained.

Public hospitals directed to disclose details of doctors in patients’ report card

The Ministry of Health and Population has directed all public healthcare facilities across the country to disclose complete identification details of the doctors and health workers involved in treatment of patients.

Healthcare professionals have been instructed to ensure that the recommendations for radiology, laboratory tests and other diagnostic procedures are clearly documented in patients' report cards.

The Ministry, in a circular today, issued the order towards this with an objective to ensure accountability and transparency in the public health sector.

The move is also expected to further facilitate in treatment of the patients as well to simplify the re-testing process for patients 

All the federal hospitals and health institutions have been asked to include all vital identification details of the doctors such as full name, medical specialization, Nepal Medical Council's registration and signature of the doctors among others in the patients' report card.

Spokesperson of Ministry, Dr Prakash Budhathoki, shared that the directive is intended to mitigate the malpractice of referring patients elsewhere for testing when those facilities are available in-house.

According to him, the incomplete prescription and absence of complete medical documentation had been creating challenges in proper diagnosis and treatment of the patients.

He expressed his confidence that the mandatory disclosure of the identification details of the medical professionals in patients' report cards would make medical professionals more responsible and accountable.

It may be noted that Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel, emphasizing reforms in curative services for the patients in public healthcare facilities, has been adopting several initiatives and measures to make healthcare services affordable and accessible.

The recent directive is a part of the Minister's broader initiatives to improve the services in the public health sector.

PM Modi chairs high-level security meet after Pahalgam attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including a Nepali citizen.

The CCS, comprising key ministers including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar, and Nirmala Sitharaman, strongly condemned the Pakistan-backed assault and was briefed on its cross-border links, Firstpost reported.

Officials emphasized that the attack occurred during peaceful elections and continuous development in Jammu and Kashmir. In a strong response, the government suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, indicating a hardline stance against Pakistan's support for terrorism.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs to conduct a high-level security review.

The Prime Minister expressed entire trust in the military forces and gave them complete operational authority over the time, targets, and mode of response. He emphasized that India will continue to battle terrorism, according to the Firstpost.

 

Gold price drops by Rs 700 per tola on Wednesday

The price of gold has dropped by Rs 700 per tola in the domestic market on Wednesday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the yellow metal is being traded at Rs 188, 100 per tola today. It was traded at Rs 188, 800 per tola on Tuesday.

Similarly, the price of silver has dropped by Rs 5 and is being traded at Rs 1,965 per tola today.

Meta launches new AI tools and assistant app

Meta unveiled new AI technologies at its first developer conference in California.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg presented a new Application Programming Interface (API) that allows developers to create AI products based on Meta's Llama model while combining characteristics from other models such as DeepSeek and Qwen, according to Reuters.

The API is currently available in preview for select users, with pricing yet to be announced. APIs are a key revenue source for competitors like OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.

Meta has released a standalone AI assistant app focusing on natural voice interaction. Chris Cox, Chief Product Officer, stated that it provides low latency, expressive voice answers, and personalized experiences by tying to users' Facebook and Instagram activity.

Reuters reports that Meta plans to test a paid subscription for its AI assistant in the second quarter.

CESIF organizes National Seminar on “Strengthening Nepal’s Diplomatic Negotiations”

The Center for Social Innovation and Foreign Policy (CESIF) organized a National Seminar on “Strengthening Nepal’s Diplomatic Negotiations.”

The seminar was organized to disseminate key findings of CESIF’s new research on Nepal’s Negotiations with China and discuss practical and strategic approaches to enhance Nepal’s diplomatic capacity in a complex geopolitical landscape.

Speaking at the program, CESIF’s Executive Chairperson, Ambassador Vijay Kant Karn,a said that this seminar aimed to be a platform for strategic reflection, critical analysis, and the formulation of actionable insights to contribute to shaping Nepal's diplomatic future,” reads a statement issued by CESIF.

He further said that in the current global environment of shifting power dynamics, it is crucial for Nepal to “navigate this complex landscape with skill and foresight.”

Highlighting China’s growing strategic interests in Nepal, he underscored the importance of building strong, capable negotiation teams that can safeguard Nepal’s long-term interests.

Vietnam marks 50 years since war’s end with national celebrations

Vietnam celebrated the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War on Wednesday with a large parade and air show in Ho Chi Minh City, commemorating the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, Reuters reported.

The event, which was attended by thousands, marked North Vietnamese forces' victory, which resulted in national reunification and the end of a 20-year conflict that killed over 3m Vietnamese and approximately 60,000 Americans.

Calling it a “victory of faith and justice,” Communist Party chief To Lam quoted Ho Chi Minh’s motto: “Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one” , according to Reuters.

The closing days of the war were marked by the dramatic evacuation of thousands of Americans as North Vietnamese forces entered the city. Vietnam was officially reunified a year later, bringing an end to decades of conflict.
