Deerwalk Learning Center launches app offering free online classes

Deerwalk Learning Center has launched the DLC App, providing free access to over 3,500 online lessons for students from grades 4 to 11. The app, introduced during a program at the Sagarmatha Hall of the Deerwalk Complex in Sifal on Tuesday, features lessons in Nepali, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The content, developed according to the Curriculum Development Centre’s guidelines, was previously available on the center’s website.

According to Deerwalk Group Limited Chairperson Hitesh Karki, more than 5m students and teachers have already used the video lessons, and work is underway to expand the resource for grade 12 and undergraduate levels. Ashok Dalli, CEO of Edutech Nepal, said over 200,000 students and teachers from more than 300 community schools equipped with computer labs by Edutech Nepal are using the lessons.

Former Khaireni Secondary School principal Keshav Raj Ghimire highlighted the role of flipped classes during the Covid-19 pandemic, noting they helped reach millions of students.

PM Oli to address Parliament today

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to address the meeting of the House of Representatives at 1 pm today. 

PM's media expert Ramsharan Bajgain stated that the PM would address the House about his recent foreign trip, achievements of the government and the contemporary issues.

Prime Minister Oli returned home on Friday after attending the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) in Turkmenistan.

 

Gold price drops by Rs 100 per tola on Wednesday

The price of gold has dropped by Rs 100 per tola in the domestic market on Wednesday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the yellow metal is being traded at Rs 196, 700 per tola today. It was traded at Rs 196, 800 per tola on Tuesday.

The price of silver, however, increased by Rs 20 and is being traded at Rs 2, 325 per tola.

Two men found dead in Sunsari

Two men were found dead in Duhabi Municipality-4, Sunsari.

Police said that they were found murdered at an under-construction house.

Locals informed police after they saw two men dead in the house.

Immediately, a police team deployed from the Area Police Office, Duhabi started an investigation, DSP Yograj Khatiwada said.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be established, police said.

The bodies have been sent to the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences for postmortem, DSP Khatiwada said.

Putin lauds ‘heroism’ of North Koreans in liberating Kursk, Pyongyang says

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised North Korean soldiers for their role in retaking the Kursk region from Ukrainian forces during a recent call with Kim Jong Un, Al Jazeera reported. Kim thanked Putin and reaffirmed North Korea’s commitment to their mutual defense treaty and support for Russia’s future actions.

The leaders agreed to stay in closer contact as Putin prepares to meet US President Donald Trump in Alaska to discuss a possible peace deal in Ukraine. Analysts see the call as a sign of growing ties between Russia and North Korea, which has sent thousands of troops to back Moscow’s war effort.

Trump expects to quickly gauge if a peace agreement is possible, which may involve land swaps between Russia and Ukraine, according to Al Jazeera.

Israel kills 73 in Gaza after world shocked by murder of journalists

Israeli forces killed at least 73 Palestinians in Gaza on Tuesday, with two more dying from the ongoing blockade, Al Jazeera reported.

Protests continue worldwide over the killing of four Al Jazeera journalists and two freelancers.

A Hamas delegation arrived in Egypt for ceasefire talks as Israel advances plans to seize Gaza City and displace nearly one million Palestinians southward, according to Al Jazeera.

Since October 7, over 61,500 Palestinians have died and 154,000 been wounded; Israel has reported more than 1,100 deaths and over 200 captives.

 

Trump’s ‘Golden Dome’ defence plan includes space missiles, lasers: Report

The Trump administration plans a $175bn “Golden Dome” missile defense system with layered interceptors, radars, and lasers, including a new missile field in the Midwest alongside existing sites in California and Alaska, Al Jazeera reported.

Congress has approved $25bn so far, with $45.3bn requested for 2026, though costs remain uncertain. Lockheed Martin leads the project, highlighting its speed and accuracy against aerial threats.

Modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome, the system aims to protect the US from missiles and drone swarms. Despite initial funding, a shortfall remains, with Trump suggesting Canada could contribute $61bn, according to Al Jazeera.

Notably, SpaceX and Palantir were absent from recent contract discussions.

UN chief warns Israel, Russia over reports of sexual abuse by armed forces

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that Israel and Russia may soon be listed as parties suspected of sexual violence in conflict zones, Al Jazeera reported.

Guterres cited credible reports of abuse by Israeli forces against Palestinian detainees but noted difficulties verifying cases due to limited UN access. He called on Israel to stop such acts and allow investigations. Israel denied the claims, accusing the UN of bias and urging focus on Hamas’s crimes.

Regarding Russia, Guterres highlighted reports of sexual violence against Ukrainian prisoners, including electrocution and forced nudity, and criticized Russia for not cooperating with UN inquiries. According to Al Jazeera, Russia’s UN mission did not respond.
