European leaders on Saturday called for full respect of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity following US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. They welcomed Trump’s pledge of security guarantees for Ukraine and urged further negotiations with President Volodymyr Zelensky, supporting a potential trilateral summit with European backing, according to Xinhua.

The statement stressed that Ukraine alone must decide its territory, borders must not be changed by force, and Europe will maintain pressure on Russia through sanctions. Trump described the Alaska meeting as “very productive,” though no agreement was reached.

Up to 3,700 Afghans resettled in the UK after working with British troops may have had their personal data exposed after a cyber-attack on Inflite The Jet Centre, a Ministry of Defence sub-contractor. The breach affected email accounts containing names, passport details, and Arap reference numbers, according to BBC.

The government said there was no threat to individuals’ safety and no evidence data was made public. Those affected include Afghans relocated earlier this year, as well as some British military personnel and former ministers.

Charities and former officials called the breach “astonishing” and urged faster relocation of Afghans at risk. The incident follows a 2022 leak affecting nearly 19,000 Arap applicants, raising fresh concerns about the UK’s handling of sensitive resettlement data, BBC reported.

Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel has described the Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital, a specialized hospital for women's health, a national heritage that connects the lives of millions of mothers and children in the country.

Addressing a programme organized to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the Thapathali-based hospital today, Minister Paudel asserted that the hospital stands as a witness to the Nepal's development in the health sector. "I am confident that the neo-natal screening and milk bank initiated by the hospital would significantly contribute in reducing the neonatal mortality," he said.

The Health Minister expressed his confidence that the reestablished IVF service in the Hospital would play a leading role in successfully implementing the infertility treatment standards introduced by the government. He pledged to add 11 additional beds to make the hospital a 500-bed health facility.

Furthermore, he informed that preparation was underway to forge an agreement to build two 25-bed satellite maternity hospitals in two municipalities in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City so as to manage the increasing patients' flow in the Kathmandu Valley

He assured to incorporate gynecology related diseases, Safe Motherhood and Newborn Programme in the national health insurance scheme.

Likewise, Shree Prasad Adhikari, Director of the Hospital, proudly shared the referral rate among the patients had been reduced due to robotic surgery in gynecological surgeries, Mental health OPD services, fetal and maternal echocardiography services being rendered by the Hospital.

He said that around 21,000 deliveries were conducted last fiscal year alone while more than 233,000 service-seekers availed services from Outpatient Department during that period.

Adhikari also mentioned that 8,693 service-seekers received infertility-related services through the OPD in the last fiscal year. Likewise, a total of 298 women availed Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) services and 43 received IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization) services in that year.

Around 2,000 newborns have been tested through neonatal screening test so far. Among them, 20 newborns were diagnosed with various disorders. According to him, this test has facilitated in diagnosis of genetic disorder in fetus and unborn babies.

The Paropakar Maternity and Women Hospital currently is the only central specialized hospital for women's health and operates with 489 beds.

The road connecting the provincial headquarters Hetauda to the federal capital Kathmandu has been blocked due to a dry landslide.

A dry landslide occurred at Jyamire, Indrasarobar Rural Municipality-3, along the Hetauda-Fakhel-Dakshinkali-Kathmandu road at around 9:30 am on Saturday, completely disrupting transport services in the area, said Spokesperson of the District Police Office, Makawanpur, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Aryal.

Furthermore, stones and trees falling down near Lamidanda, Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-9, along the Tribhuvan Highway have also brought the road to a standstill. DSP Aryal said that work is being done to remove the landslide debris by using machines in both places. (RSS)

Executive Director of the Nepal Administrative Staff College (NASC) and Former Secretary at Finance Ministry, Ram Sharan Pudasaini, said time has come to broaden tax base without placing undue burden on existing taxpayers.

"Strengthening institutional capacity for effective compliance and enforcement is equally imperative at sub-national governments," he stressed.

Executive Director Pudasaini said it while speaking at the Friday Management Talk Programme (FMTP) on 'Enhancing Revenue Collection and Mobilization: Prospects, Challenges, and Way Forward'. The event was organized by the Management Association of Nepal in Kathmandu on Friday.

According to him, revenue mobilization strategies need to be aligned with national development priorities and sustainable growth.

The event was coordinated by Secretary General of MAN and Coordinator of FMTP, Indra Kumar Shrestha.

The FMTP was attended by policymakers, economists, academicians, researchers, private sector representatives and media.

Shrestha informed RSS that the FMTP was forwarded in a way to create a dynamic forum for exchanging ideas and best practices in public finance management. It is also expected to function as a platform for dialogue, capacity building, and policy insights to support the nation’s socio-economic development, Shrestha added.

He further viewed as the country has been practicing federalism with three-tiers of government in place, public finance management counts much. (RSS)

President Ramchandra Paudel visited the historic Shree Krishna Temple in Patan today to pay homage on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.

Following the completion of worship rituals, the Head of State of state received flowers and prasad from the temple priest.

The President also observed the nearby Manga Hiti, an area featuring an ancient stone water spout.

A 16-year-old boy died and five others were injured after accidentally receiving an electric shock while hoisting the national flag as part of preparations for the Krishna Janmashtami festival in Bannigadhi Jayagadh Rural municipality-1, Achham.

Rohit Saud, a resident of Nandegada in Mellekh rural municipality-7, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Bayalpata Provincial Hospital.

The incident occurred today near the Bardadevi Temple in Jayagadh Bazaar, where locals were organising celebrations for Shree Krishna Janmashtami, the birthday of the Hindu deity Krishna. According to reports, an iron pole being used to hoist the flag accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire.

The injured have been identified as Samir Shah, 18; Binod Raut, 17; and Bam Shah, 20, all from Bannigadhi Jayagadh-6; Lawashan Sunar, 16, from Mugasain of Sanfebagar municipality-4; and Shamsher Saud, 16, from Ramaroshan tural municipality-6. They are reported to be out of a life-threatening condition. (RSS)

At least 307 people have died in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir after monsoon floods and landslides swept through the region, BBC reported.

Most deaths occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where homes were destroyed and a rescue helicopter crashed, killing five crew. Nine were killed in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and five in Gilgit-Baltistan. Authorities declared disaster zones as heavy rain is forecast to continue until 21 August.

In Indian-administered Kashmir, flash floods wiped out a Himalayan village, leaving at least 60 dead. According to BBC, scientists link the worsening monsoon disasters to climate change.
