Local polls: NC candidates emerge victorious in Dhakari Rural Municipality of Achham
Nepali Congress candidates emerged victorious in Dhakari Rural Municipality of Achham.
Prakash Bahadur Saud has been elected as the chairman with 3, 181 votes. His closest contender Dharma Bahadur Saud of CPN-UML got 2, 555 votes.
Similarly, Netrakala Devi has been elected as the vice-chairperson of the rural municipality.
She secured 3, 100 votes while her closest contender Maya Devi Buda of CPN-UML garnered 2, 573 votes.
I am happy to visit Lumbini: Indian PM Modi
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he was happy to visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.
Indian Prime Minister Modi and his Nepali counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba offer prayers at the Mayadevi Temple.
Modi will lay the foundation stone of the India International Center for Buddhist Culture and Heritage to be constructed by the government of India.
He will return home today itself.
NC wins in Dhankaul Rural Municipality in Sarlahi
Nepali Congress candidates Ram Ashraya Sah and Akali Sahani have been elected as the chairperson and vice-chairperson of Dhankaul Rural Municipality, Sarlahi respectively.
Sah garnered 4, 477 votes while Sahani secured 4, 504 votes.
Sah's closest contender CPN (Maoist Centre)'s Phakira Mahato got 3, 378 votes. Vice-Chairperson Sahani's closest contender Maoist Centre's Nilam Kumari Devi Sahani received 3, 225 votes.
Nepali Congress emerged victorious in ward 1, 2 , 4 and 7 of Dhankaul Rural Municipality which has seven wards.
Mohan Basnet of NC elected mayor of Dakshinkali Municipality
Nepali Congress candidate Mohan Basnet has been elected as the mayor of Dakshinkali Municipality, Kathmandu.
Basnet defeated CPN-UML candidate Shreeram Acharya by 2, 009 votes.
Basnet secured 7, 201 votes while Acharya garnered 5, 192 votes, Election Officer Amrita Bhandari said.
He was also elected as the mayor from the Nepali Congress in 2017.
Deuba, Modi offer Pooja at Maya Devi Temple
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi offered Pooja and prayers at the sacred Mayadevi temple in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha.
The Indian Prime Minister arrived in Lumbini this morning to celebrate the Buddha Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, on Monday.
Leading an 11-member delegation, Modi arrived in Lumbini on an Indian Air Force helicopter this morning.
He was received by his Nepali counterpart Prime Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Prime Minister Deuba's wife Arzu Deuba, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka, Physical Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Renu Kumari Yadav, Tourism Minister Prem Ale and Education, Science and Technology Minister Devendra Paudel welcomed the Indian Prime Minister.
Indian PM Modi arrives in Nepal
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Nepal. He was received by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha
After landing, the Indian PM tweeted, “Happy to be among the wonderful people of Nepal on the special occasion of Buddha Purnima. Looking forward to the programmes in Lumbini.” He will participate in a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the India International Centre for Buddhist Culture & Heritage on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. He will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. Ministry of Foreign Affairs said PM Deuba warmly received Modi upon his arrival at Lumbini.
Bijay Subedi taking lead in Bharatpur Metropolitan City
CPN-UML candidate Bijay Subedi is leading the vote count with a narrow in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
Out of 10, 405 votes counted so far, Subedi has garnered 3, 633 votes while CPN (Maoist Centre) candidate Renu Dahal secured 3, 629 votes.
Similarly, independent candidate Jagannath Paudel received 1, 397 votes.
Likewise, Nepali Congress deputy mayoral candidate Chitrasen Adhikari obtained 4, 113 votes and Rastriya Prajatantra Party candidate Himala Gurung, who has got support of the UML, 2, 861 votes.
