Foreign Ministry to organize Yadhu Nath Khanal lecture series

Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to organize Prof. Yadhu Nath Khanal lecture series in the honor of Khanal’s contribution to foreign policy, diplomacy, and national interests. The first series of lectures will take place on June 7 this year and will be focused on the issue of foreign policy and national issues. In the first episode, Dr. Surya Subedi will deliver a lecture on ‘Foreign policy of Nepal: Past, Present, and future.’

 

KP Oli-led govt’s slogan ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ removed from policy and programs

The government has removed the slogan ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ from its policy and programs unveiled for the upcoming fiscal year. 

The erstwhile government led by KP Sharma Oli had been referring to the slogan of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepal’ as the national aspiration. 

The Oli government had adopted the slogan for four years. 

But, now the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government has removed the slogan from the policy and programs.

Salman Khan’s Nepal tour postponed

The 'Da-Bangg Tour Reloaded' slated for May 28 featuring Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan has been postponed.

The tour has been postponed at the last hour.

A staffer of the Nepal-based program organizer ODC Entertainment said that he will not come to Nepal on the announced date.

It has been learnt that the organizer will inform about the postponed event through a statement.

Government plans to construct charging stations to promote use of electric vehicles

The government has planned to construct charging stations in collaboration with the private sector to promote the use of electric vehicles.

In the policy and programs presented by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Tuesday, the government has planned to review the electricity tariff rate to increase electricity consumption and to gradually replace cooking gas.

The government is also planning to build large reservoir hydropower projects to ensure the supply of electricity 12 months.

An additional 715 MW of electricity will be added to the national power grid next year.

 

Government to bring social media under the purview of law and tax

The government has decided to bring social media under the purview of law and tax.

While presenting the policy and programs of the government at the Federal Parliament on Tuesday, President Bidya Devi Bhandari said that the social media will be brought under the of law from next year.

Similarly, the government has a policy to make Digital Media Network program effective.

In the policy and programs, the government has also decided to gradually reduce the use of paper in government offices.

 

 

Nepse surges by 16.32 points on Tuesday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) gained 16. 32 points to close at 2, 217. 19 points on Tuesday.

Similarly, the sensitive index increased by 3. 62 points to close at 432. 67 points.

Meanwhile, a total of 4, 100, 730 unit shares of 224 companies were traded for Rs 1. 08 billion.

In today’s market, all sub-indices saw green except for Trading and Mutual Fund.

At the end of the day, total market capitalisation stood at Rs 3. 15 trillion.

Lawmakers file public importance proposal at Parliament against fuel price hike

With the increase in the prices of daily essential commodities and petroleum products, lawmakers have registered a public importance proposal at the Parliament.

CPN-UML Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai, lawmakers Rajendra Prasad Lingden and Ganesh Kumar Pahadi registered the urgent public importance proposal at the House of Representatives.

In the proposal, they have demanded the government's efforts to reduce leakage, commission and exorbitant taxes on cooking gas, petrol, diesel and kerosene.

The government has jacked up the prices of petroleum products two times in a span of two weeks.

The Joint Student Union has been staging phase-wise protests against the government's decision to hike the prices of petroleum products.

Government postpones 9th National Games

The government has postponed the 9th National Games.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports said that the games will be held from October 14-20.

Earlier, the government had decided to hold the National Games from June 5-11.

Now, the games will be held in October which were postponed time and again due to Covid-19 and local level elections.

A Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday approved the proposal of the Ministry of Sports saying that there is not enough preparation time for the players.

The meeting has given a permission to conduct the games  at an estimated cost of Rs 600 million.

The National Sports Council has included 36 games in the 9th National Games.
