Dengue claims 54 lives so far
Dengue infection has spread in almost all the 77 districts of the country. The Ministry of Health and Population said that 54 people have died from the infection so far. Two people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours. The dengue infection has been confirmed in 46, 768 people till Friday from mid-July. The Ministry has urged the people to clean their surroundings and wear full sleeve clothes to prevent dengue.
Nepse surges by 16. 39 points on Monday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) gained 16. 39 points to close at 1,874.87 points on Monday. Similarly, the sensitive index surged by 4.93 points to close at 370. 86 points. Meanwhile, a total of 2,574,975 unit shares of 224 companies were traded for Rs 69 billion. In today’s market, all sub-indices saw green except for Development Bank. Meanwhile, Sayapatri Hydropower Limited was the top gainer today, with its price surging by 10. 00 percent. Upper Hewakhola Hydropower Company Limited was the top loser as its price fell by 8.16 percent. At the end of the day, total market capitalization stood at Rs 2. 69 trillion.
CPN (MC) unveils election commitment paper
The CPN (Maoist Center) unveiled its election manifesto on Monday. The election commitment paper was unveiled by organizing a press conference at the party office in Sanepa this afternoon. The manifesto made public today includes forming a high level commission to investigate the property of office bearers. The party has also said that it would establish a National Employment Authority to resolve the problem of unemployment.
Charge sheet filed against Sandeep Lamichhane at Kathmandu District Court
A charge sheet has been filed against Nepal national cricket team skipper Sandeep Lamichhane at the Kathmandu District Court on Monday, demanding 12 years of imprisonment. Laxman Upadhyay, District Attorney and spokesperson at the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Kathmandu, said that a rape charge has been filed against Lamichhane at the court, demanding 10 to 12 years of imprisonment. Earlier, a 17-year-old girl had filed a rape complaint against Lamichhane at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala when he was abroad to play Caribbean Premier League (CPL) from Jamaica Tallawahs. According to the complaint, Lamichhane had allegedly taken the girl to various places in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur on August 21 and raped her in a hotel room the same night.
Nepal PM says, ‘deeply saddened’ by tragic incident of bridge collapse in Gujarat
Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur said that he was saddened by the news that at least 30 people were killed and dozens critically injured when a suspension bridge in India’s western Gujarat state collapsed on Sunday. “I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident of bridge collapse in Morbi, Gujarat. We extend heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of India on the loss of precious lives. Our thoughts & prayers are with the bereaved families,” he said.
CPN (US) unveils election manifesto
The CPN (Unified Socialist) unveiled its election manifesto amid a program in the Capital on Monday. The manifesto was unveiled in the presence of party Vice-Chairman Rajendra Pandey and General Secretary Beduram Bhusal among others this afternoon. The party office bearers made public the manifesto as party Chairman Madhav Nepal has gone to his constituency in Rautahat for electioneering.
Car hit kills three of a family in Rupandehi
Three persons of a family died after being hit by an unidentified car in Rupandehi on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Pramila Kumari (28), Sima Kurmi (14) and a one-month-old baby of Panani, Omsatiya-4, Rupandehi, DSP Shyamu Aryal of the District Police Office, Rupandehi said. He said that the baby’s mother Bandana Kurmi (24) and Manju Kurmi (35) were injured in the incident. The Indigo Car heading towards Parasi from Bhairahawa hit them this morning. DSP Aryal said that the injured are undergoing treatment at the Universal College of Medical Science in Bhairahawa. Police said that they are searching for the car and its driver.
RPP unveils election manifesto, floats proposal to dismiss provincial system
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has floated a proposal to dismiss the provincial system. Unveiling the election manifesto amidst a program in the Capital on Monday, the RPP has put forward a proposal to dismiss the provincial system and form a strong central and local governments. RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden said that the need of the hour is the monarchy as a parental institution and a directly elected executive prime minister. He said that his party’s agenda is the two-tiers of government with a fully proportional parliament and a strong local level. Similarly, the party in its manifesto said that a person cannot hold an executive position like party president or prime minister for more than two terms.
