Chitra Bahadur KC elected HoR member of Baglung

Rastriya Janamorcha Party Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC has emerged victorious in Baglung-1. He garnered 21, 451 vote to defeat Surya Prasad Pathak of the CPN-UML, who received 18, 825 votes. KC is a common candidate of the five-party alliance. The octogenarian is entering the parliament for the fourth time.  He was the winning candidate in the 1999 general election and 2008 Constituent Assembly election. He was the member in the 2013 (second) Constituent Assembly from the Proportional Representation system and did not compete in the 2017 election.  He had, however, lost the 1994 mid-term election. He was appointed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation on November 5, 2015 at the age of 75. He is well-known among the people as a leader with high oratory skills. He had spent 19 years in his life underground and nine months in jail.

Rastriya Swatantra Party’s Khanal wins in Kathmandu-6

Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Shisir Khanal has been elected as a member of the House of the Representative from Kathmandu-6. Khanal emerged victorious by securing 14, 204 votes. His closest contender Sarbendra Khanal of the CPN-UML got 8, 911 votes and Bhimsen Das Pradhan of the Nepali Congress garnered 8, 805 votes. Earlier, party’s Sobhita Gautam was elected in Kathmandu-2, Ganesh Parajuli in Kathmandu-7, Birajbhakta Shrestha in Kathmandu-8. Khanal is the founder of Teach for Nepal, a campaign working to improve the education sector of Nepal. Sarbendra Khanal is the former Inspector General of Police while Pradhan is the former Defence Minister. Twenty-four candidates, including 13 from different parties and 11 independents, were in the race for the HoR seat from Kathmandu-6.  There were 62,102 registered voters in this constituency stretching from Bagbazar via Gongabu to Kavresthali of Kathmandu district. The voter turnout in Sunday's election was 38,910. Out of this, 1,532 votes were invalid.

UML’s Gokarna Bista emerges victorious in Gulmi-2

CPN-UML candidate Gorkarna Bista has emerged victorious in Gulmi-2. He secured 28, 485 votes while his closest contender Ram Kumari Jhankri of the CPN (Unified Socialist) garnered 26, 441 votes. Bista defeated Jhankri with a margin of 2, 044 votes.

Rajendra Kumar KC of NC elected in Kathmandu-10

Nepali Congress candidate Rajendra Kumar KC has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Kathmandu-10. He emerged victorious by securing 14, 458 votes. His nearest rival Himesh KC of the CPN-UML garnered 11, 786 votes. Pradeep Bista of the Rastriya Swatantra Party received 8, 736 votes.

UML’s Bhim Bahadur Karki elected PA member from Karki-2 (A)

Bhim Bahadur Karki of the CPN-UML has been elected as a member of the Province Assembly from Kaski-2 (A). He defeated his closest contender Bijay Babu Bhandari of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party with a margin of 4, 638 votes. Karki obtained 10, 531 votes while Bhandari received 5, 893 votes.  

Five killed in Gulmi jeep accident

Five persons died and four other sustained injuries in a jeep accident at Satyawati Rural Municipality in Gulmi district on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Jhalak Somai (51), Tika Rahadi (55), Ran Bahadur Sinjapati (47), Milan Taramu (30), and Jamuna Somai (43), according to DSP Madhav Raj Kharel of District Police Office, Gulmi. The incident occurred when the jeep (Lu 2 Chha 5340) heading towards Satyawati from Ridi, Gulmi skidded off the road at around 2:30 am today. Karbolin Somai, Chetman Sinjali, Gir Bahadur Rahadi and Khandan Somai, who were injured in the incident, are undergoing treatment at the Palpa Hospital.

PM Deuba wins election for seventh time

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has won the election for the seventh time to secure a place in the Parliament from Dadeldhura. Out of 51, 293 votes cast, he secured 25, 534 votes while his closest contender, independent candidate Sagar Dhakal garnered 13, 042 votes. Karna Bahadur Malla of the BP Congress got 7, 535 votes.

RPP Gen Secy Dhawal Shumsher Rana emerges victorious from Banke-2

Rastriya Prajatantra Party General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana has won the election to the House of Representatives from Banke-2. According to the Election Commission, he emerged victorious by securing 27, 577 votes. He defeated Mohammad Istiyak Raye of Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal with a margin of 6, 057 votes. Raye garnered 23, 520 votes. Banke is considered as the stronghold of the Nepali Congress. However, Nepali Congress candidate Sudeep Nursingh Rana obtained just 4, 403 votes.
