Woman, son die as landslide buries house in Baitadi
A woman and her son died after a landslide buried a house at Bhairu Tole in Puchaurdi Municipality-2 of Baitadi.
The deceased have been identified as Anju Gagari (25) and her five-year-old son Rijan Jagari, Inspector Kamal Prasad Chaudhary said.
According to the Area Police Office, Patan Chief Chaudhary, Anju’s mother-in-law Raimati (45) and brother-in-law Gobbar Jagari (17) were injured in the incident.
Similarly, Jasma Bohara (60), a neighbor who came to stay as a guest in the same house, was also injured.
Anju’s husband is in India for employment.
According to locals, the house was completely damaged in the incident.
117 wild animals die in CNP in last fiscal year
At least 117 wild animals were found dead in Chitwan National Park in the last fiscal year.
Different 17 types of wildlife were found dead in the national park and Madhyawarti Community Forest.
Information Officer at CNP, Ganesh Prasad Tiwari said that majority of the wildlife was found dead due to natural reasons.
As many as 80 animals died due to natural causes while 26 animals died due to dog bites.
In the period, 55 spotted deer, 22 one-horned rhino, nine ghariyal crocodile, seven antelope and three tigers, Gaurigai and wild buffalo each were found dead in and around the area.
Likewise, elephants, two wild boar, magar crocodile, ratuwa, porcupine, jackal, dhanesh, laguna and leopard were also found in the area, he informed.
According to the CNP data, a total of 142 wild animals were rescued during the period.
Nominations for Isa Award till Jan 2024
The Board of Trustees of the Isa Award for Service to Humanity, chaired by Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, the special representative of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, stated that the Isa Award for Service to Humanity reflects the King’s unwavering commitment to supporting humanitarian work. This announcement took place during the opening of nominations for the sixth edition (2023/24) of the Isa Award for Service to Humanity. The award was initially launched by the King in 2009 and aims to honor outstanding individuals and organizations that provide exceptional services to humanity.
In the fifth edition, the award was presented to the esteemed Nepali ophthalmologist, Dr Sanduk Ruit, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to human service through eye treatment.
Ali Abdullah Khalifa, the Secretary General of the Isa Award, highlighted that the Kingdom of Bahrain, through the establishment of this Award, has become a leading supporter of pioneering global initiatives that serve humanity. He further pointed out that the award stands as the first Arab award to globally recognize initiatives dedicated to serving humanity, gaining international recognition and acclaim.
“A jury of experts from around the world will judge the nominees’ work. The winner of the award will be presented with a Royal Certificate of Appreciation, a medal made of pure gold, and $1m at a ceremony in the Kingdom of Bahrain in June 2025,” the Secretary General said.
Nominations will close at the end of Jan 2024.
PM Dahal holds virtual meeting with visiting CPC leader from Italy
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal held virtual talks with Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Yuan Jiajun, who is currently in Nepal, from Rome, Italy.
According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Prime Minister Dahal held a virtual meeting with CPC politburo member Yuan from Rome.
Leading a 26-member team, Yuan arrived in Kathmandu at the invitation of CPN (Maoist Center) on Sunday.
It has been learnt that issues of Nepal-China relations and bilateral interests were discussed during the meeting.
Prime Minister Dahal had left for Italy on Saturday to take part in the program of the United Nations.
Nepse surges by 63. 24 points on Sunday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) gained 63.24 points to close at 2,227.16 points on Sunday.
Similarly, the sensitive index surged by 14.41 points to close at 424. 93 points.
A total of 12,002,308-unit shares of 266 companies were traded for Rs 4. 37 billion.
Meanwhile, Kisan Lagubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited and Chandragiri Hills Limited were the top gainers today, with their price surging by 10. 00 percent.
Likewise, NIBL Growth Fund was the top loser as its price fell by 10.00 percent.
At the end of the day, total market capitalization stood at Rs 3. 27 trillion.
NRB to issue digital currency
Nepal Rastra Bank is to issue digital currency.
Making public the monetary policy for the fiscal year 2023/24, the central bank said that further works will be carried out on the basis of the study conducted on the issue of digital currency.
Likewise, it is mentioned in the monetary policy to facilitate the collection of revenue by using electronic payment devices in the main offices where public services are provided.
NRB makes public monetary policy for FY 2023/24
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has made public the monetary policy for the fiscal year 2023/24.
The central bank through the policy has dropped the policy rate, and kept intact the mandatory cash ratio and the statutory liquidity ratio of banks and financial institutions.
Similarly, the bank rate has remained unchanged, and the bidding rate in deposit collection has been decreased.
In view of the internal and external economic scenario, the policy rate has reduced 50 base points to 6.5 percent. The bank rate has been kept intact at 7.5 percent while the bidding rate in deposit collection has dropped to 4.5 percent from 5.5 percent.
The secondary market transaction and the bidding in the deposit collection will remain open if the weighted interbank interest rate considered the operation target by the Rastra Bank is higher than the bank rate and lower than the deposit collection rate.
Similarly, the provision of the permanent liquidity facility in the bank rate and the overnight liquidity facility in the policy rate has been kept unchanged.
There will be a provision of providing the permanent deposit collection at the lower limit of the interest rate corridor for making the interest rate corridor effective, according to the central bank.
CPC high-level team in Kathmandu
A high-level team of the Communist Party of China (CPC) arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday.
The team led by Yuan Jiajun, who is also a politburo member and party secretary of Chongqing city, arrived in Kathmandu at the invitation of the ruling party CPN (Maoist Center) this afternoon.
Five officials of the Foreign Ministry of China have already arrived in Kathmandu.
The Yuan team arrived in Kathmandu via Singapore and Sri Lanka.
A Central Committee meeting of the CPC had made a decision to send the Yuan’s team to three countries from July 16 to 25.
During their stay in Nepal, they will call on President Ram Chandra Paudel, deputy prime minister and also hold meetings with senior leaders of various political parties and visit historical sites.
According to a source, they will also hold discussions with officials of security agencies.
The CPC leaders’ visit to Nepal at a time when preparations are being made for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to China has been seen as meaningful.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in Nepal are also making necessary preparations for Prime Minister Dahal’s visit, according to a source.
During PM Dahal’s visit, China is preparing to hold a discussion on the draft of the BRI project implementation.
