Electricity supply disrupted in Jumla

Nearly 800 households in the district have been forced to live in darkness owing to electricity disruption for two days.

The Dillichaur Hydropower Project failed to generate power owing to the cut off in water supply. The canal supplying water to the hydropower was damaged by a landslide.

The canal collapsed, disrupting water supply. It was damaged in a 25-meter stretch. "Although locals had noticed cracks on the canal wall, it lacked timely repair, resulting in power disruption since Sunday," said Chairman of Vidyut Cooperatives, Krishna Bahadur Budha, expressing regret.

Budha informed that it costs Rs 600, 000 as per technicians to reconstruct the channel.

Nearly 800 households from ward 4, 5 and 6 of Patarasi Rural Municipality have been deprived of electricity after the damage in water supply. It also caused difficulty in the daily works of government offices, banks and financial institutions.

Meanwhile, Rs 300, 000 has been allocated from the rural municipality for the reconstruction of the hydropower canal.

Rural municipality Chair Purna Singh Bohara informed that they were at work to resume power supply at the earliest.

 

Snowfall in Jumla brings cheers to farmers

It has been snowing in Jumla since this morning. Snowfall took place late this year compared to previous years. About half a foot of snow has accumulated across the district, including the headquarters Khalanga.

It is the first snowfall of this year's winter season.

Parvati Budha, a local resident of Tila Rural Municipality-1 in the district, shared that the farmers who planted winter crops were happy after the snowfall.

The farmers were worried that there would be a drought as there was no snow this winter so far.

According to the Agricultural Development Office, the farmers who planted barley and wheat crops were greatly relieved by the snowfall. Gopal Rokaya, an agricultural entrepreneur, says that the snowfall will help the planting of apple and walnut trees.

Meanwhile, due to the snowfall in Jumla and Upper Karnali, air services have been disrupted.

 

Two killed as jeep falls off road in Jumla

Two persons died in a jeep accident at Chalpunera in Kanakasundari Rural Municipality-4 of Jumla on Sunday.

The tragedy occurred when the four-wheeler (Bhe 1 Ja 1099) was heading towards Mugu from Jumla at around 6: 30 am today.

District Police Office Information Officer Yam Bahadur Budha Magar said that both the driver and the assistant driver died on the spot.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained.

The jeep fell some 300 meters down the road.

Police said that they are looking into the incident.
