A Turkish Airlines aircraft arriving in Kathmandu from Istanbul caught fire while landing at Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday.
According to TIA Security Office Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Silwal, the plane with call sign TK726 caught fire while landing this morning.
“This morning, a tire of the aircraft caught fire while landing. The fire was extinguished with the help of fire engines. The situation is under control now,” he said. “The runway has been closed for some time for inspection.”
According to Silwal, there were 273 passengers and 11 crew members on board the plane. All passengers were safely evacuated.
A technical inspection is currently underway to understand the cause of the fire and its impact on the aircraft.
