A government authority has recorded over 7,500 disasters in the last year. As many as 13,504 households were directly affected by the disasters.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said that the country witnessed a total of 7,547 events, causing huge loss of human lives and property.
The natural disasters such as landslides, heavy rainfall, lightning, forest fire, storm and avalanche occurred in the year, taking a huge toll on lives and property. Fire incidents counted most.
NDRRMA said there were 3,652 fire incidents. A family of four members became victims in a fire incident. Similarly, 563 persons were injured and 4,182 households were directly affected by the fire incidents.
The floods and inundation occurred in a number of 328 took the lives of 39 persons, while 27 went missing and 14 received injury. According to NDRRMA, 76 persons lost lives in 621 landslides.
Seven persons died and 20 persons got injured in the incidents triggered by heavy rains. A total of 48 persons died in 419 lightning incidents, while the number of people receiving injuries in the lightning stood at 312 and directly affected 522 households.
In the last one year, NDRRMA reported 477 storm incidents, 324 forest fires, 509 wild animal attacks, and 131 incidents of altitude sickness.
These incidents were recorded in the period from April 14, 2025 to April 7, 2026.
