15 candidates lose deposits in Kanchanpur-2

Out of 19 candidates for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections in Kanchanpur-2, 15 have lost their deposits after failing to secure minimum votes.

According to Election Officer Prkash Bahadur Bhandari, the HoR Elections Act-2074 BS mandates the confiscation of deposits of an election candidate who fails to secure 10 percent of the total valid votes. 

As per the provision, 11 candidates from various political parties and four independents have lost their deposits. 

They are Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)'s Tirtha Raj Chautaut (1,993), Janamat Party's Ramchandra Bhatta (125), Sitaram Rana (72) of Nepal Workers and Peasants' Party ( 72), Ram Bahadur Karki of Rastriya Janamorcha (195), Dharmananda Joshi (195)  of Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party (195), Khadak Tamrakar (143) of Samyukta Nagarik Party, Tej Bahadur Badawal (18)  of Miteri Party Nepal, and Lokendra Bahadur BK (143) of Nepal Communist Party(Maoist). 

Likewise, Yogendra Bahadur Saud (93) of Ujyalo Party Nepal, Premawati Rana ( 560) of Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal, Jaggu Chaudhary  (37) of Aam Janata Party, independent candidates Birendra Rana (81), Bhanubhakta Bohara ( 26), Siddharaj Joshi(19), Harish Bahadur Bhatta (44) have also lost the deposits.  

Deepak Raj Bohora of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) was elected with 33,952 votes while his nearest competitor Narayan Prasad Saud secured 10,827 followed by CPN-UML candidate Bachan Bahadur Singh with 6,418 votes. Nepali Communist Party (NCP) candidate Madhav Pant got 6,337.

Out of 65,347 votes cast here, 4,230 were declared invalid, according to the Election Officer's Office.
