The results of the House of Representatives (HoR) elections under the first-past-the-post electoral system are in the final stage, which show a landslide victory for the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
In the HoR elections held on March 5, the top leaders of the established political parties lost the election, while voters poured in their massive support to the RSP.
The RSP faced the election by forwarding its senior leader and former mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balendra Shah as the prime ministerial candidate.
As per the results, the RSP is heading to gain two-thirds majority seats in the next parliament.
As of now, the RSP has gained 119 seats out of 165 seats under the direct election system. Similarly, the party has gained massive votes under the proportional electoral system.
Likewise, the Nepali Congress has won 17 seats, while UML and the Nepali Communist Party have won seven seats each under the direct electoral system.
The NC, the largest political party in the erstwhile parliament, has suffered massively and its top leaders have lost the election.
NC President Gagan Kumar Thapa, general secretaries Pradip Paudel and Gururaj Ghimire, joint general secretaries Pharmullah Mansoor, Udaya Shumsher Rana and Prakash Rasaili Snehi lost the March 5 HoR election.
Likewise, senior leaders Shekhar Koirala, Bimalendra Nidhi, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, NP Saud, Mahalaxmi Upadhyay 'Dina' and other leaders too could not win the election.
CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli, vice chairs Gokarna Bista, Prithvi Subba Gurung and Bishnu Prasad Paudel, general secretary Shankar Pokhrel, assistant general secretaries Raghubir Mahaseth and Lekhraj Bhatta, secretaries Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, Serdhan Rai, Mahesh Basnet and Dr Rajan Bhattarai also lost the election in their constituencies.
UML's senior leaders Ishwar Pokhrel, Devraj Ghimire and Pradip Kumar Gyawali too also come in the same page of those being defeated.
In the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), its Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal won the election from Rukum East but other top leaders including Madhav Kumar Nepal, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Bhim Rawal, Mahindra Raya Yadav, Rajendra Prasad Pandey, Shakti Basnet and Devendra Paudel were defeated from the contenders, mostly from the RSP candidates.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden, senior vice chairman Rabindra Mishra and senior leader Kamal Thapa also witnessed a defeat in the election.
Surprisingly, Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party, which had continuously won the election from Bhaktapur lost the polls in Bhaktapur for the first time since 2048 BS.
Likewise, all the top leaders and the entire competitors of the Madhes-based political parties including Upendra Yadav, Rajendra Mahato, CK Raut, Prabhu Shah and others lost the election.
