Harkaraj Rai, chairperson of the Shram Sanskriti Party, has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Sunsari Constituency No. 1. He defeated Goma Tamang, candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP), by securing 35,741 votes.

According to the final election results, Tamang of the RSP received 27,249 votes. Rai defeated Tamang by a margin of 8,492 votes. Rai had entered the election fray for the House of Representatives this time after resigning from the post of mayor of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City.

Entering national politics from the local level, he has set his parliamentary journey for the first time. As soon as the election results were made public, his supporters celebrated victory in Dharan. Rai said that his victory was the result of the people's desire for change and trust.
