A drone strike targeted Erbil International Airport, killing one security personnel and injuring another, local authorities said. Loud explosions were heard and smoke was seen rising from inside the airport, wrote AP.

Sirens sounded as warplanes flew overhead. Authorities reported intercepting several drones or missiles over the facility.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to AP, the strike comes amid a wave of attacks linked to Iranian-backed militias across Iraq, including incidents near Basra International Airport.
