UML's Suhang Nembang wins Ilam-2

In Ilam’s Constituency No. 2, CPN (UML) candidate Suhang Nembang has won the House of Representatives with 22,426 votes defeating Bheshraj Acharya of NC who received 14,650 votes.

Nembang has revived his father's legacy with the win.

Similarly, Sudip Rai of the Shram Sanskriti Party received 14,400 votes. Gokul Rai of the Rastriya Swatantra Party received 7,814 votes from Ilam, while Om Bahadur Gurung of the Nepali Communist Party received 1,172 votes.

Out of a total of 119,489 voters, 67,664 votes were cast in this election, which is 56 percent of the total voters. The Election Office has stated that 3,883 votes were invalid out of the votes counted.

Amidst the fierce competition between new and old forces, Suhang’s victory has once again proven the strong hold of UML in Ilam. It has been analyzed that the voters of this region approved of the simplicity and development-loving image of the late Subash Nembang and the youthful zeal of Suhang. Nembang had previously been elected from the same constituency in a by-election.

When he won in the 2024 by-election by getting 27,772 votes, many called it a vote of 'sympathy'. However, in the past 16 months, Suhang has tried to create his own distinct identity. From raising the issues of Ilam's tea, agriculture and roads in parliament to remembering the district in times of disaster, voters have closely watched him.
