UML’s Thebe wins in Taplejung

CPN-UML candidate Kshitij Thebe won in Taplejung in the House of Representatives election with 13,962. Thebe defeated Gajendra Prasad Tumyahang Limbu of the NC by 2,251 votes.

Tumyahang received 11,711 votes. Despite taking an initial lead, Tumyahang could not maintain his lead. Similarly, Khel Prasad Budha Chhetri of the Nepali Communist Party received 6,775 votes and Santosh Rai of the Shram Sanskriti Party received 5,209 votes.

Thebe is a central member of the CPN-UML. Earlier, in the 2017 and 2023 elections, CPN-UML Deputy Secretary General Yogesh Bhattarai had won. 51 percent of the votes were cast in Taplejung, which has 90,327 voters. There are nine local levels, including eight rural municipalities and one municipality. There were 13 candidates in the fray in Taplejung, which has one constituency. The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has stated that once the direct counting of votes is completed, the proportional counting will begin.
