The Nepali Congress has decided to nominate Ishwori Devi Neupane, chairperson of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, for the vacant post of the chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee.
A meeting of the top leaders of the party held today under the chairmanship of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba made this decision, party General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma said.
Vice Presidents Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung along with the General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Sharma were present in the meeting.
Elections for the new chairperson of the Committee will be held on August 27.
The Parliament Secretariat has announced that the nomination of candidacy is scheduled to take place today from 1 pm to 4 pm.
The position was vacant after Congress lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada resigned from the post amid ‘cooling off period’ controversy.
