Narayani Hospital in Birgunj remained tense throughout the day on Tuesday following the death of an inmate in the course of treatment.
Kith and kin of the deceased picketed the hospital and also staged a demonstration claiming that Rahul Sah (28) of Birgunj Metropolitan City-25 died due to the negligence of the police and local administration.
Sah, who had been doing time in the Birgunj jail for the past five years in the murder case, breathed his last during the course of treatment at 10:30 am today.
The relatives of Sah burnt tires in front of the hospital and chanted slogans against the police administration.
According to Dr Uday Narayan Singh, Information Officer at the Narayani Hospital, police brought Sah to the hospital’s emergency room for treatment at 8:30 am today.
When he was brought to the hospital, his mouth was dripping with blood, Singh said.
“As his condition was serious, doctors suggested Sah’s attendants take him to another health facility because there were no beds available in the ICU ward. After that, doctors made a referral paper,” Dr Singh said, adding, “When his condition worsened, the hospital administration decided to treat him at the hospital after consulting with Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal by managing a space. But he died during the course of treatment.”
He also said that the cause of Sah’s death was heart failure.
Meanwhile, the family and relatives of the deceased have alleged that Sah died due to lack of timely treatment.
