Poland seizes sanctioned aircraft tires bound for Russia

Polish customs officials seized five metric tons of aircraft tires destined for Boeing commercial flights, citing violations of European Union regulations. The tires were discovered during a routine inspection in Koroszczyn, near the Belarusian border, where they had been incorrectly identified as vehicle and bus tires, Reuters reported.

According to Poland's National Revenue Administration, the shipment came from a Spanish corporation and was destined for a recipient in Azerbaijan.Authorities suspect the goods were meant to transit through Belarus and Russia.

Criminal proceedings have been launched for customs fraud, and the sanctioned goods have been confiscated. The EU maintains strict sanctions on certain exports to Russia following its 2022 invasion of Ukraine, according to Reuters.
