The main opposition CPN (Maoist Center) has demanded a fair investigation into the seizure of Rs 250 million.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Maoist Center lawmaker Madhav Sapkota demanded a special probe committee to investigate the case.
Police on Tuesday arrested and made public the person arrested with more than Rs 250m from Jhor of Tokha Municipality-1.
Organizing a press conference in Kathmandu, police paraded Kusang Lama (43) of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-1, Sindhupalchowk.
A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku had nabbed Lama with Rs 251.60m from Jhor while he was heading to Kerung from Kathmandu in a truck, concealing the money in a false bottom beside the driver’s seat.
According to police, Lama, a driver, has confessed that he was working as a courier.
The arrestee has already served a seven-year jail term in a gold smuggling case.
SSP Ramesh Basnet of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office said Lama has been sent to the Customs Department in Harihar Bhawan for further investigation.
