32 quintals of gold worth around Rs 31 billion smuggled to Nepal: CIB

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has concluded that around 32 quintals of gold were smuggled to Nepal by hiding it in electrical equipment and brake shoes.

Organizing a press conference to inform about the second phase of investigation of gold smuggling in Kathmandu on Monday, the CIB informed that 3194. 668 quintals of gold were smuggled to Nepal by concealing it in electrical equipment and brake shoes.

The market value of the gold is Rs 30. 82 billion.

The CIB said that Bhujel Electric Suppliers Pvt Ltd, Hwada Electric Suppliers Pvt Ltd, Chhungak Electric Suppliers Pvt Ltd, Dolakha Electric Suppliers Pvt Ltd and Ready Trade Pvt Ltd had brought the gold to Nepal.

DSP Sundar Tiwari informed that the report of the second phase of investigation has already been submitted to the Kathmandu District Prosecutors' Office.

Meanwhile, he said that police have arrested 20 persons and 26 are still at large.

Similarly, CIB Chief AIG Shyamalal Gyawali said that the involvement of former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Dipesh Pun was not found during the investigation of gold smuggling other than vape.
