Police have arrested three Chinese nationals for their alleged involvement in online fraud in Birgunj.
They were accused of duping the people of Nepal, India and Pakistan among other countries through social media and mobile phones.
Police apprehended the Chinese nationals on Saturday on the charge of defrauding people by establishing a call center at a two-storey house in Laxmanuwa, Birgunj Metropolitan City-15.
Among the arrestees, two are Chinese nationals and two Nepali nationals, translators of Chinese language.
Police made public the Chinese nationals amidst a press conference on Sunday.
The identities of the two Nepali nationals, however, have not been disclosed.
Police had received the information that a gang has been cheating Nepalis and foreign nationals by operating a call center in Birgunj for the past two months.
On the basis of the same information, police on Saturday nabbed the Chinese nationals from Birgunj Metropolitan City-16.
Following their arrest, a police team led by SP Kumod Dhungel of the District Police Office, Parsa carried out a raid at the house of Nandu Patel in Laxmanuwa in Birgunj-15 from where they were operating a call center.
During the raid, police recovered a large quantity of electronic devices, computers, laptops, mobile phones and SIM cards from the house, SP Dungel said.
During the press conference organized at the District Police Office, Parsa, though Dhungel informed that only three Chinese nationals involved in the gang were arrested, police have also arrested two other Chinese citizens.
Police have apprehended two more Chinese nationals from Hotel Bishwa in Birgunj.
