NMA decides to shut down all services except emergency across the country today

Nepal Medical Association has decided to shut down all medical services except emergency care in all the health institutions across the country on Sunday.

The Association said that it has decided to halt all services except emergency after the government did not take action against those involved in attacking the doctors of Sancho Hospital in Hetauda despite giving an ultimatum to take necessary action within 72 hours.

“The Nepal Medical Association had demanded legal action against the culprits by issuing an ultimatum of 72 hours on September 13. The Association was forced to make public the protest programs from September 17 after the Nepal government did not bring all the culprits involved in the incident to justice,” reads a statement issued by the Association.

It has been mentioned in the statement that all the services except emergency care will be shut down in all the government health institutions, hospitals, medical colleges, private hospitals and clinics across the country.

“All the health institutions, hospitals and medical colleges and all the branch offices of Nepal Medical Association among others are urged to pile pressure on the government to address all the demands by making the protest programs organized in compulsion fully successful,” the statement further reads.

The Association has demanded that all the culprits involved in the attack on the doctors be booked at the earliest.

Dr Bikash Thapa and Dr Prashant Bidari of Sancho Hospital were attacked while they were treating patients on September 13.

The kith and kin of a man, who was referred to Chitwan from Sancho Hospital for the treatment of dengue infection, attacked the doctors after he died in the course of treatment on August 10.
