House meet put off after endorsing condolence motion on Nembang’s death

A meeting of the Legislature-Parliament on Thursday passed a condolence motion on the demise of Constituent Assembly Chairman and CPN-UML leader Subash Chandra Nembang.

The proposal tabled by Speaker Devraj Ghimire was unanimously approved by the meeting.

A minute's silence was also observed praying for eternal peace to the departed soul.

Earlier, the National Assembly passed a condolence motion on the demise of a member of the House of Representatives Nembang.

Born at Suntalibari in Ilam Municipality-7 on March 11, 1953, Nembang entered politics from All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), student wing of the UML.

Though he was a teacher and a lawyer, he made his career in politics. He has continuously been winning the election from Ilam-2 since 1999.

Prior to that, he was elected as a member of the National Assembly.

Nembang became the Minister of State for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in 1994. Then he became General Administration and Local Development Minister.

He won the election from Ilam-2 in 1999.

Nembang became the Speaker on May 13, 2006.

After that, he held the same responsibility from January 17, 2007 to May 27, 2008. He was elected from Ilam-2 in the Constituent Assembly election.

He served as the Constituent Assembly member and Speaker from July 27, 2008 to May 27, 2012 and from February 18, 2014 to October 14, 2015.

He also won the election to the second Constituent Assembly of 2013 from Ilam-2.

Nembang won the election of 2017 and 2022 from the same constituency.

The UML Vice-Chairman Nembang had also become the candidate for the presidential election held in February.

He was also elected as the President of the Public Accounts Committee in 1999.

Nembang also served as the General Secretary of the Nepal Bar Association.

The next meeting of the Parliament will be held at 1 pm on Friday.
