CPN-UML Vice-Chairman Nembang no more

Constituent Assembly Chairman and CPN-UML Vice-Chairman Subash Chandra Nembang died of a cardiac arrest on Tuesday.

He breathed his last on the way to a hospital after he suffered a heart attack at his residence this morning.

Though he was taken to the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for treatment, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

After receiving the news of his death, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, and Speaker Devraj Ghimire among other leaders had reached the hospital.

Nembang’s journey from National Assembly member to Constituent Assembly Chairman

Nembang (70) was born at Suntalibari in Ilam Municipality-7 on March 11, 1953. He entered politics from All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), student wing of the UML.

Though he was a teacher and a lawyer, he made his career in politics. He has continuously been winning the election from Ilam-2 since 1999.

Prior to that, he was elected as a member of the National Assembly.

Nembang became the Minister of State for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in 1994. Then he became General Administration and Local Development Minister.

He won the election from Ilam-2 in 1999.

Nembang became the Speaker on May 13, 2006.

After that, he held the same responsibility from January 17, 2007 to May 27, 2008. He was elected from Ilam-2 in the Constituent Assembly election.

He became the Constituent Assembly member and Speaker from July 27, 2008 to May 27, 2012 and from February 18, 2014 to October 14, 2015.

He also won the election to the second Constituent Assembly of 2013 from Ilam-2.

Nembang won the election of 2017 and 2022 from the same constituency.

The UML Vice-Chairman Nembang had also become the candidate for the presidential election held in February.

He was also elected as the President of the Public Accounts Committee in 1999.

Nembang also became the General Secretary of the Nepal Bar Association.
