The Kathmandu District Court has extended the remand of the 16 people arrested in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee scam by two more days.
SP Sitaram Rijal of the District Police Range, Kathmandu said that the District Court has allowed those arrested in connection with the case to keep in custody for two more days.
The District Attorney’s Office has to register the case in the court within the next two days.
On Monday, police had submitted a report on the fake Bhutanese refugee scam to the District Attorney’s Office with a recommendation to take action against 33 individuals involved in the case.
So far, 16 individuals have been arrested including former deputy prime minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and former home minister Bal Krishna Khand while 17 are on the run.
