6 killed, 5 injured in earthquake in far western Nepal

At least six persons died and five others were injured when an earthquake struck Doti in far western Nepal on Wednesday. Police identified the deceased as Prem Bohara (50), his daughter Tulsi Bohara (14), Bhagwati Bohara (40), her son Harka Bohara (8) and daughter Sita Bohara (13) and Dhansari Bohara (14). Similarly, the injured have been identified as Isharadevi Bohara, Dhauli Bohara, Bishra Bohara, Chanadevi Bohara, Mahabir Bohara, Keshav Singh Bohara and Jagudevi Bohara.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, the 6.6 ML  quake with its epicenter around Khaptad National Park in Doti district, was recorded at 2:12 am today.

Dozens of houses collapsed and a large number were damaged in the earthquake , DSP Bhola Bhatta, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Doti said. He said that six people died when a house collapsed at Gairagaun in Purnachauki Rural Municipality-3 and one is yet to be rescued. DSP Bhatta said that the five persons, who were injured in the incident, have been sent to the hospital for treatment. Police said that Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army personnel have already reached the incident site and are carrying out rescue operations with the help of locals. Teacher Meena Raj Ojha said that almost all the houses of the locals collapsed in the earthquake. Earlier on Tuesday, an earthquake measuring 5. 7 on the Richter scale shook Dipayal.
