EC seeks clarification from UML candidate Bhattarai for violating election code of conduct

The Election Commission has sought a clarification from CPN-UML candidate Yogesh Bhattarai for breaching the election code of conduct. Bhattarai has filed his candidacy for the election to the House of Representatives from Taplejung. The poll body asked for clarification from Bhattarai after he was found conducting a door-to-door election campaign at Sikaicha in Sirjunga Rural Municipality-3 accompanying more than 25 people.

According to the Election Commission, political parties and candidates should not be accompanied by more than 25 people while conducting door-to-door campaigns.

The EC has also barred the parties and candidates from organizing mass gatherings, rallies and meetings before November 3. “Why should the commission not take action against you according to Section 23 (3) and (4) of the Election Commission Act, 2073 for violating the election code of conduct?” the EC asked Bhattarai. Meanwhile, the EC has also sought a clarification from CPN (Maoist Center) candidate for the election to the House of Representatives Bina Magar for breaching the election code of conduct.
