Social activist Lamichhane registers candidacy from Kathmandu 5 (2)

With the motto to build a strong provincial structure for national prosperity, social activist Jagannath Lamichhane has registered as an independent candidate for election to Bagmati Provincial Assembly from Kathmandu district constituency no 5 (2). Lamichhane registered his candidacy after declaring that he is no longer able to be watched idly by as “political parties and leaders openly flout constitutional provisions, and only concern themselves with petty power and party politics, instead of the grave mission of nation building with economic growth and social security at the heart of governance.” In this spirit, he registered his candidacy as an independent with a focus on raising issues of urban governance, urban economic growth and sustainable cities, effective public financial management and service delivery, community resilience and mental health particularly engaging the youth.

Lamichhane is a mental health rights advocate and is a well-known social activist raising issues of violence against women and impunity through occupy baluwatar campaign, democratic reforms, anti-corruption and is a staunch campiagner of Dr Govinda KC's movement to improve the public health sector. He has been actively involved in various socio political campaigns since the early 2000s and also co-owns popular cafe Bodhi Books and Bakes in Naxal, Kathmandu.
