Efforts on to drain out water from lake formed after Marsyangdi river blockage

The Marsyangdi river, which was blocked by mud, sand, rock and pebbles deposited by the swollen Ghattekhola stream after incessant rainfall, has been still flowing from both sides of the bridge.

Although the river is flowing partially from both sides of the bridge by changing its course, it is still dammed, shared Assistant Chief District Officer and Information Officer, Krishna Prasad Poudel.

“Efforts are underway to release the water from the lake that was formed after Marsyangdi river blockage by using excavators and a chopper of Nepal Army has been transporting fuel needed for the excavators," he said.

Efforts are now underway in coordination with local government, provincial government and federal government at the consultation of experts.

Chief of Chame Rural Municipality, Lokendra Bahadur Ghale, stated that attempts have been made to release the water of the lake by using different equipment including excavators available in the local levels considering the water flow and risk.

Some houses surrounding the area have been inundated after the river changed its course.

Supply of electricity and drinking water, telephone, internet service and road network have been completely disrupted due to flood and landslide.

Meanwhile, locals have been facing problems in their movement after floods on Marsyangdi river swept away a bridge connecting Naso Rural Municipality-8 and 9.
