The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, with the participation of members of the Indian community and friends of India in Nepal.
The celebrations began with a rendition of Vande Mataram, followed by the hoisting of the national flag by the Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava and the national anthem, reads a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
The program also featured the broadcast of an address to the nation by President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu.
During the program, the Ambassador honoured the widows and next of kin of 11 Indian Armed Forces personnel who had died in service and handed over Army Group Insurance Fund (AGIF) cheques amounting to a total of NPR 8.2 crore.
The Ambassador also felicitated the winners of various competitions organized by the Embassy to mark the 80th Independence Day, according to the statement.
The Embassy also announced book grants for 22 educational institutions and libraries across seven provinces of Nepal.
The celebrations also featured vibrant cultural performances and patriotic songs presented by teachers and students of the Embassy’s Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center.
