Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal met Scott Urbom, Chargé d'Affaires, and Mike Harker, Public Affairs Chief at the US Embassy, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

During the meeting, Khanal congratulated Harker for the ascent of Sagarmatha and praised his achievement as the first US diplomat to summit the world's highest peak.

The minister said Harker’s accomplishment would help promote Nepal's adventure tourism and encouraged him to continue advocating Nepal as a leading destination for adventure and nature tourism in the US and other international markets.

Harker summited at Sagarmatha on 20 May, 2026, becoming the first US diplomat to climb the world's highest mountain. The meeting also included discussions between the foreign minister and the US embassy officials, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
