SC issues show-cause notice in Resham Chaudhary’s case

The petitioner has demanded the apex court annul the decision, making the Office of the President defendant.
Chaudhary was released after the Cabinet meeting recommended President Ram Chandra Paudel to pardon his remaining sentence on the occasion of Republic Day. Earlier, Kadayat had registered an application at the President’s Office and demanded that Chaudhary be not released anytime soon after the government tried to grant amnesty to him. Later, the President sent the file back to the Home Ministry. The Kailai District Court on February 24, 2019 handed down a life sentence to 11 people including Chaudhary in connection with the 2015 Tikapur incident in which nine people including seven security personnel and a toddler were killed in a violent clash. The Dipayal High Court on December 18, 2020 upheld the decision of the District Court. On May 16, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of Kailali District Court and Dipayal High Court to sentence Chaudhary to life imprisonment in the Tikapur incident.
