A prominent Sudanese human rights group has accused the country's army and security forces of torturing people to death and operating "execution chambers".

The Emergency Lawyers group said it had documented hundreds of arrests in the capital Khartoum. It said that in the "worst cases", some captives had later been found dead with evidence of torture, BBC reported.

The Sudanese army recaptured the city from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in March, against which it is fighting a bitter civil war that has killed tens of thousands in two years.

The army did not respond to the BBC's request for comment on Sunday.

South Korea and the United States began their annual large-scale joint military exercise on Monday to better cope with threats by nuclear-armed North Korea, which has warned the drills would deepen regional tensions and vowed to respond to “any provocation” against its territory, Associated Press reported.

The 11-day Ulchi Freedom Shield, the second of two large-scale exercises held annually in South Korea, after another set in March, will involve 21,000 soldiers, including 18,000 South Koreans, in computer-simulated command post operations and field training. 

The drills, which the allies describe as defensive, could trigger a response from North Korea, which has long portrayed the allies’ exercises as invasion rehearsals and has often used them as a pretext for military demonstrations and weapons tests aimed at advancing its nuclear program, according to Associated Press.

Donald Trump has said the Ukrainian president can end Russia's war "if he wants to", but there would be "no going into Nato by Ukraine" as part of a peace deal, BBC reported.

Hours before he was due to host Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, Trump also said there would be "no getting back" of the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014, eight years before launching its full-scale invasion.

Trump's remarks follow his summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska that resulted in the US president dropping a demand for a ceasefire and calling instead for a permanent peace deal.

After arriving in the US late on Sunday, Zelensky reiterated his call for allies' effective security guarantees, according to BBC.

The Tamghas-Ridi road section along the Madan Bhandari Highway in Gulmi district has remained obstructed from early morning today due to a landslide triggered by rainfall. 

The landslide, which brought down large rocks, has blocked the road in Resunga Municipality-13, according to the District Police Office, Gulmi.

Vehicular movement on both sides has come to a standstill, leaving passengers and vehicles stranded. Efforts to clear the landslide depositions have started, said Ganga Bahadur Saru, the Information Officer at the District Police Office.

Cases of dengue and scrub typhus are on the rise in Khotang district, according to the District Health Office (DHO), Khotang. 

Altogether 12 dengue cases and 14 scrub typhus cases were detected in the district in the month of Shrawan alone. 

According to Jivan Prasad Chaulagain, Chief of the DHO, two patients infected with each- of dengue and scrub typhus- were referred to Kathmandu for further treatment. The health condition of the infected ones is gradually improving, he said.

The district having 10 local levels is witnessing an increasing number of mosquito-borne infection and bacterial infection in the recent days with six men and six women infected with dengue and nine men and five women down with scrub typhus. 

While some patients returned home upon recovery, some are still undergoing treatment in the District Hospital, said Dr Rupesh Sangraula, Chief of the District Hospital in Khotang. 

According to him, cases of dengue and scrub typhus are common in the monsoon season. He, however, expressed concern that the Hospital lacks facilities to treat severe cases. 

There is also a surge of patients with ailments other than dengue and scrub typhus in the District Hospital, informed Dr Sangraula, adding that around 150-200 patients visit the Hospital on a daily basis.

“We are facing problems in rendering services to the patients in lack of necessary equipment and adequate beds," added Sangraula. 

In view of rising cases of dengue and scrub typhus in the district, an all-party meeting convened in Diktel on Sunday decided to launch a 'Larvae Search and Destroy' campaign in all 10 local levels. As a preventive measure, the infection-bearing mosquito larvae will be searched and perished.

Visiting Foreign Secretary of India Vikram Misri extended an invitation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for the India visit.

Misri, who arrived in Kathmandu on a two-day visit today, paid a courtesy call on PM Oli at the latter's office in Singh Durbar this morning and handed over the invitation letter, PM's Chief Advisor Bishnu Rimal said.

During the meeting, they discussed the issues spanning from the exchange of high level visits to the bilateral relations and mutual interests. 

However, both sides have not formally announced the date for the visit yet. 

The schedule of the visit would be made public based on mutual understanding of the diplomatic channels between the two countries.

Three people are dead and eight others wounded after a shooting in a crowded New York City club early Sunday morning, Associated Press reported.

Investigators believe a shooter or shooters opened fire with multiple weapons at Taste of the City Lounge in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Crown Heights after “a dispute” just before 3:30 a.m., killing three men, New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch told reporters. 

“It’s a terrible shooting that occurred in the city of New York,” Tisch said at a news briefing. She said officers are investigating at least 36 shell casings from the lounge, as well as a firearm that was discovered in a nearby street. 

Those wounded in the shooting — eight men and three women — are being treated at hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries, she said. The ages the victims range from 27 to 61, according to Associated Press.

Palestinian militant group Hamas said on Sunday that Israel’s plan to relocate residents from Gaza City constitutes a “new wave of genocide and displacement” for hundreds of thousands of residents in the area, Reuters reported.

The group said the planned deployment of tents and other shelter equipment by Israel into southern Gaza was a “blatant deception”.

The Israeli military has said it is preparing to provide tents and other equipment starting from Sunday ahead of its plan to relocate residents from combat zones to the south of the enclave "to ensure their safety".

Hamas said in a statement that the deployment of tents under the guise of humanitarian purposes is a blatant deception intended to "cover up a brutal crime that the occupation forces prepare to execute".
